A strategic alliance is poised to reshape India’s rapidly expanding automotive aftermarket. In this conversation, industry leaders examine the licensing partnership between ACDelco and Assurance International Limited. The collaboration deliberately integrates global engineering excellence with robust local manufacturing capability. Moreover, supported by the technological heritage of General Motors, the partnership aims to introduce internationally benchmarked batteries and lubricants to Indian consumers. At the same time, India’s vehicle parc continues to expand and move steadily beyond warranty cycles. Consequently, the alliance represents a calculated strategic move to capture emerging opportunities in an increasingly competitive aftermarket ecosystem. In this interview, the stakeholders articulate the vision, technology framework, and market strategy that underpin this collaboration.
In an exclusive interaction with The Interview World during the press meet announcing the India entry of ACDelco, General Motors’ global automotive aftermarket brand, through its association with Assurance International Limited, Pratik Sharma, National Manager – Network Development at Chevrolet Sales India Pvt. Ltd., shares his perspective on the initiative. He discusses the strategic rationale behind the partnership, outlines the market opportunity, and highlights the technology and distribution approach that will shape the brand’s expansion in India. The following are the key takeaways from this insightful conversation.
Q: What are the key aspects of the partnership agreement between ACDelco and Assurance International Limited?
A: This agreement is between ACDelco and Assurance International Limited. ACDelco is a global aftermarket brand that operates under the umbrella of General Motors and specializes in replacement parts and service products for vehicles.
Under this arrangement, the two companies have entered into a licensing partnership focused on the automotive aftermarket. Specifically, Assurance International Limited will manufacture and market automotive batteries and lubricants under the ACDelco brand.
In essence, the agreement authorizes Assurance International Limited to produce and distribute these products while leveraging the brand strength, standards, and global reputation of ACDelco. Consequently, the partnership aims to strengthen the presence of ACDelco in the automotive aftermarket segment through locally manufactured batteries and lubricants.
Q: Could you highlight the key innovations ACDelco has introduced in this segment?
A: ACDelco has maintained a strong presence in the global automotive aftermarket for more than a century. Backed by the engineering legacy and technological expertise of General Motors, the brand continues to deliver innovation and reliability across its product portfolio.
In this partnership, however, the focus remains specific and well defined. The current collaboration with Assurance International Limited covers only two product categories: automotive batteries and lubricants.
Moreover, all products will strictly adhere to Indian regulatory and industry standards. At the same time, they will comply with the global quality benchmarks established by General Motors. To ensure this consistency, General Motors has transferred its detailed technical specifications and quality protocols to Assurance International Limited.
Consequently, the batteries and lubricants produced under this agreement will be manufactured locally while fully conforming to the established standards, technology frameworks, and quality expectations associated with the ACDelco brand.
Q: Does Assurance International Limited have manufacturing facilities in the country?
A: Assurance International Limited operates its manufacturing facilities in Hisar. The company runs a dedicated lubricants plant there that specializes in the production and processing of automotive lubricants.
In addition, the company has recently established a separate facility for battery manufacturing. This new plant focuses exclusively on producing automotive batteries and operates independently from the lubricants unit.
As a result, Assurance International Limited now manages two distinct manufacturing facilities in Hisar, one dedicated to lubricants and the other to battery production. Together, these plants form the company’s core production base for these product categories.
Q: What technological advantages do these products offer compared to competing products in the market?
A: These products incorporate the latest technologies required to support the performance and reliability of vehicles currently driven by Indian consumers. In addition, they are engineered to meet the evolving technical demands of modern automobiles.
As a result, the focus remains firmly on delivering superior quality and dependable performance. Consequently, these products aim to set a higher benchmark and offer a top-tier alternative to many of the options currently available in India’s automotive aftermarket.
Q: How do you see the growth prospects of the automotive industry in the country?
A: The automotive industry continues to expand steadily, and the aftermarket segment offers significant growth opportunities. New vehicles sold by manufacturers typically carry a warranty of three to five years. However, once that warranty period expires, most vehicles transition into the open service market.
Consequently, a large and growing pool of vehicles requires replacement parts, maintenance products, and service support outside the original manufacturer network. This shift creates substantial demand across multiple segments of the automotive aftermarket, where numerous brands and suppliers actively compete.
Recognizing this opportunity, we aim to establish a strong presence in this space. More importantly, our objective is to introduce high-quality products and contribute to a more competitive marketplace. In doing so, we seek to compete effectively with existing manufacturers while offering customers reliable alternatives in the aftermarket ecosystem.
