Virohan is revolutionizing healthcare education in India. Headquartered in Gurgaon, it bridges the wide gap between academic learning and the practical demands of the healthcare industry. By partnering with universities and colleges, Virohan delivers cutting-edge undergraduate and vocational programs in medical laboratory technology, optometry, operation theatre technology, and hospital administration.

Founded in 2018, Virohan goes beyond awarding degrees, it builds careers. With a network of over 2,000 industry partners and an impressive ~98% placement record, the organization equips students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, with the skills that employers actively seek.

By combining hands-on training with industry-aligned curricula, Virohan transforms education into opportunity. Its mission is clear: to empower India’s youth to enter meaningful, in-demand healthcare careers with confidence. In essence, Virohan is where education meets ambition, turning potential into performance.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at DIDAC India 2025, Virochit Kumar, Director of Partnership & Alliances at Virohan, shared insights into the organization’s innovative learning solutions in allied healthcare. He explained how universities collaborating with Virohan distinguish themselves through superior skill development and employability programs, detailed strategies for post-skilling student engagement, and outlined his vision for expanding Virohan’s impact beyond India.

Here are the key takeaways from his insightful discussion.

Q: Can you provide an overview of the learning solutions Virohan offers in the allied healthcare sector?

A: At Virohan, our primary focus is empowering students to build meaningful careers, even as we support universities in establishing high-quality healthcare programs. In India today, each doctor ideally requires at least 20 healthcare technicians in a hospital, but the current ratio is only three technicians per doctor, far below WHO recommendations. This shortage highlights the urgent need for skilled allied healthcare professionals.

To address this gap, we partner with universities to establish Schools of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing, offering a full-stack model that covers everything from admissions to placement. What sets us apart is the quality of education we provide. Our faculty includes doctors from prestigious institutes such as AIIMS and Maulana Azad Medical College, who have chosen to leave their hospital positions to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. Their mission is clear: to multiply expertise by preparing students to meet real-world healthcare demands.

We deliver industry-ready content through a blended learning approach, combining classroom instruction with hands-on training. Internships form a major part of our curriculum, and our students benefit from placements with over 2,000 healthcare partners, including leading organizations such as Max Healthcare, Medanta, and Clove Dental. This ensures students not only receive top-tier education but also gain practical experience and secure employment.

For universities, collaborating with Virohan creates a school that serves multiple purposes: it benefits society by generating skilled professionals, supports students by preparing them for in-demand careers, and enhances the university’s ability to offer programs with significant job opportunities. In short, we bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring students, universities, and society all thrive.

Q: How do the universities partnering with you for allied healthcare programs differentiate themselves from regular universities offering similar programs?

A: The foundation of our model is simple: when a university runs courses on its own, it is just offering standard programs. However, when a university partners with us, the relationship transforms into a true industry-academia collaboration. This partnership brings industry expertise directly into academic programs, creating real-world relevance for students.

Consider B.Tech programs today. Students often prefer courses where companies like Google or IBM offer internships alongside the curriculum. Similarly, a standard Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at a reputed university becomes far more valuable when it is delivered in collaboration with industry partners. Through such partnerships, students gain not only academic knowledge but also practical skills and employment-ready experience.

Virohan has been pioneering this space for over a decade, even five years before COVID-19 made the need for skilled healthcare technicians urgent. The pandemic highlighted a critical gap: hospitals had equipment like oxygen cylinders, but lacked trained personnel to operate them. While shortages existed on both infrastructure and manpower fronts, ensuring an adequate workforce was, and remains, non-negotiable.

Our approach addresses this challenge directly. We provide all the academic support that universities offer, but we add significant value during internships and hands-on training. Because we specialize exclusively in allied healthcare professions, we can deliver superior education, advanced practical training, and industry-aligned skills that truly prepare students for their careers. In short, we transform university programs into career-launching platforms for healthcare professionals.

Q: Could you share insights on the post-upskilling engagement of students who have enrolled through your platform?

A: As of the last quarter, Virohan has successfully trained over 10,000 students across universities and institutes. Remarkably, our programs have achieved a 96% placement rate, a number we acknowledge with humility. This success reflects not only our efforts but also the persistent supply-demand gap in the healthcare sector.

Hospitals, diagnostic centers like Dr. Lal Path Labs, and various health check-up points continue to face a shortage of skilled manpower. The days of filling technician roles through personal connections or informal arrangements are over. Today, governments require that all healthcare technicians hold proper degrees and certifications to ensure quality and compliance.

By bridging this gap, we are laying a strong foundation that benefits students, universities, and society alike. Our mission goes beyond education; it addresses the urgent demand for qualified healthcare professionals, creating opportunities while strengthening the healthcare ecosystem.

Q: How do you envision taking these programs to international markets beyond India?

A: There are two ways to view our approach. First, in terms of manpower creation, our primary focus is India. We aim to train two crore students over the next five years, an ambitious goal, but one we are actively pursuing. Our courses are fully developed, our programs are operational, and our network of over 2,000 placement partners is firmly in place. Now, the focus is on scaling and multiplying our impact.

Second, while our immediate priority is meeting India’s healthcare workforce needs, we also recognize the global demand for skilled nurses and allied healthcare professionals. We envision our trained professionals not only serving domestic healthcare but also accessing lucrative opportunities abroad.

Ultimately, our strategy ensures that India has a sufficient workforce to meet its own needs while creating a surplus of skilled professionals who can thrive internationally. In short, we are building a robust talent pipeline that serves both the nation and the global healthcare ecosystem.
