Crack Conversations@ Human Library Cafe

Ayush Keshari, an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University and CEO of Human Library Cafe (HLC), draws inspiration from the central role of humans in the evolution of society. He believes in harnessing the power of conversation to empower and uplift individuals. In an interview with The Interview World,  Ayush discusses the unique concept and objectives of HLC.

Q: Tell us about your unique concept of Human Library Cafe.

A: The concept of Human Library Cafe (HLC) is rooted in the profound importance of conversation as a means of communication among humans. Conversations enable the exchange of thoughts, ideas, emotions, and information, serving as a cornerstone for building relationships, resolving conflicts, and fostering cooperation in various aspects of life. The power of conversation lies in its ability to connect people, share knowledge, promote understanding, resolve conflicts, and drive positive change in both personal and societal contexts. The power of conversation is profound and far-reaching.

HLC was initiated two years ago in Varanasi, and since then, our journey has been both interesting and encouraging.

Q: What problems do you aim to address through HLC?

A: At HLC, our mission is multifaceted. We seek to promote social inclusion and understanding, reduce loneliness and isolation, encourage empathy and tolerance, support mental health and well-being, and stimulate lifelong learning and curiosity. Conversations, at their core, are tools for brainstorming ideas, analyzing problems, and finding solutions. Collaborative discussions enable individuals to pool their knowledge and creativity to tackle challenges and make informed decisions.

Q: How does HLC work?

A: Human Library Cafe is a unique space where individuals can engage in one-on-one conversations with “human books.” These “human books” offer personal experiences that allow for sharing, questioning, and reflection, profoundly influencing perceptions. The objective is to establish a positive framework for conversations that facilitate the growth and learning of young people. To become a “human book,” one simply needs to share their personal story or journey. Conversations, whether with others or introspectively, can lead to personal growth and self-discovery. Reflective dialogues empower individuals to gain insights into their thoughts and behaviors, fostering self-improvement and personal development.

Q: Are eminent personalities from various fields integral to your concept?

A: Absolutely, eminent personalities hold a pivotal role in the HLC concept. They are often referred to as influencers, leaders, or role models and have the capacity to shape and guide others in numerous ways. Their actions, words, and achievements exert a profound impact on individuals, communities, and entire societies. Eminent personalities inspire and motivate others by setting exceptionally high standards of excellence in their respective fields. Their dedication and determination serve as a powerful source of inspiration for those aspiring to excel in similar domains.
