Torrins is transforming music education in India with the clarity, structure, and creative energy that schools urgently need. Since its founding in 2010, the organization has built a robust, future-ready music curriculum that integrates seamlessly into the school timetable. It delivers trained instructors, fully equipped music labs, and meticulously developed learning materials, ensuring music education is as systematic as any core subject.

Its programs cover guitar, keyboard, drums, and both Indian and Western vocals. Rooted in Bloom’s Taxonomy and aligned with NEP 2020, these courses go far beyond technical training. Torrins cultivates confidence, stage presence, and creative discipline. Its flagship Battle of the Bands, now one of India’s largest school music competitions, draws thousands of students and features leading Bollywood artists as judges.

Backed by industry icons such as Ehsaan Noorani and guided by world-class mentors, Torrins now partners with more than 285 schools across 21 states. The impact is clear: students are learning to think critically, collaborate effectively, and express themselves powerfully through music.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at DIDAC India 2025, Vinayak Sharma, COO of Torrins, delves into the program’s success, explains how AI enhances music teaching, and discusses its adoption across schools. He also outlines the company’s expansion plans and shares his vision for the future of music education in the age of AI.

The following are the key insights from his compelling conversation.

Q: Could you elaborate on the type of music education Torrins provides to schools, and what factors have contributed to the success of this program?

A: We partner with schools by transforming their unused rooms into fully equipped music labs and placing trained instructors on campus. This structure allows music education to become an integral part of the school environment rather than an activity on the periphery.

Our program operates on a solid foundation: a comprehensive, research-backed curriculum that our teachers deliver with consistency and clarity. Students move through a structured learning journey that takes them from understanding their instruments to building the confidence needed to perform on stage. Every step is intentional, ensuring that learning remains engaging, progressive, and outcome-driven.

As you noted, developing interest is crucial—and real interest emerges when students get the opportunity to perform. When parents witness their children on stage, when schools celebrate these achievements, and when students see their friends showcasing their skills, motivation naturally deepens.

This continuous cycle of learning, performing, and recognition ultimately fuels the sustained success of our program.

Q: Are you using AI to support music teaching, and how does it work?

A: Yes, we have built a fully tech-enabled platform on Torrins.com that uses AI to personalize each student’s learning path. The system analyzes individual progress and recommends exactly where they should begin, right from the first song, and then maps out the next steps in sequence. In other words, it guides learners through a curated progression of songs and skills. Through this intelligent sequencing, we use AI to ensure that every student advances at the right pace with the right material.

Q: How many schools have already adopted Torrins’ music platform?

A: We currently partner with 285 schools across 21 states and approximately 82 cities, creating a widespread and rapidly growing national footprint.

Q: Do you have plans to expand this program to international markets?

A: We are actively exploring opportunities in international markets, particularly in the Middle East and Nepal. As we evaluate these regions, we remain fully open to partnerships and expansion prospects that align with our vision.

Q: How do you see the future of music evolving over the next decade as AI and other emerging technologies enter the field?

A: We believe music education will remain deeply relevant in the coming decade because AI, despite its capabilities, cannot add soul to music. Only humans can bring that emotional depth. While AI can support and enhance the learning process, the essence, the soul of music, still depends on human expression. That human element, we feel, will always endure.
