Unlike many alternative dyeing systems, SUPRAUNO supports conventional dyes and accommodates both natural and synthetic fabrics, thereby enabling seamless adoption across diverse textile applications. Consequently, the technology dramatically reduces water consumption, lowers energy demand, and minimizes the use of chemicals without compromising process efficiency or product quality.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at Bharat Tex 2026, Aditya Baser, Director of Deven Supercriticals, discusses how SUPRAUNO enables textile manufacturers to adopt waterless dyeing at scale with efficiency and sustainability. Q: Could you elaborate on how SUPRAUNO empowers textile manufacturers to implement waterless dyeing processes efficiently and sustainably across fabric types?

A: At our core, we are machine manufacturers, and SUPRAUNO represents our most significant innovation in textile processing. The technology uses supercritical carbon dioxide (CO₂) instead of water for dyeing, offering a sustainable and highly efficient alternative to conventional methods.

When exposed to specific pressure and temperature conditions, CO₂ enters a supercritical state. In this phase, it combines the characteristics of both a gas and a liquid—it penetrates materials like a gas while dissolving substances like a liquid. Consequently, it serves as an ideal medium for transporting dyes into textile fibers.

The process is straightforward yet highly effective. First, we apply a thin layer of dye solution to the fabric. We then dry the fabric and wind it into a beam before placing it inside the dyeing vessel. Next, we inject pure CO₂ into the vessel. As the carbon dioxide reaches its supercritical state, it carries the dye molecules from the fabric surface deep into the fiber matrix, ensuring uniform and durable coloration.

Initially, supercritical dyeing technologies were largely confined to polyester. However, SUPRAUNO has significantly expanded these capabilities. Today, the technology can process cotton, linen, viscose, acrylic, wool, and polyester-cotton blends in a single operation.

Moreover, SUPRAUNO eliminates the need for salt in cotton dyeing and simplifies the treatment of blended fabrics. Instead of multiple dyeing stages, manufacturers can apply disperse and reactive dyes simultaneously and complete the process in a single vessel, thereby improving efficiency while reducing water, chemicals, energy consumption, and processing time.

Q: How does the durability of fabrics dyed using waterless dyeing compare with those processed through conventional dyeing methods?

A: Our technology consistently achieves color fastness ratings of 4 to 5, matching the performance of conventional exhaust dyeing processes. In terms of quality, the results are comparable because supercritical CO₂ possesses exceptional penetration capabilities. It carries dye molecules deep into the fiber matrix, ensuring uniform, durable, and long-lasting coloration.

Consequently, the process delivers the high standards of color integrity and fabric performance that the textile industry demands. Extensive validation has further confirmed its reliability across a range of applications.

More importantly, the technology has already proven its commercial viability. Our full-scale plant at Arvind Limited is actively producing textile fabrics using the SUPRAUNO process. This deployment demonstrates not only the scalability of the technology but also its readiness for industrial adoption.

Arvind Limited is a prominent supplier to global apparel companies, including brands within the H&M Group. Therefore, the successful operation of our technology at this scale reinforces its potential to drive sustainable transformation across the global textile manufacturing ecosystem.

Q: Is SUPRAUNO designed and manufactured entirely in India, or are certain components sourced internationally as part of the production process?

A: We conceived, designed, and developed this technology entirely in India, with all research, engineering, and manufacturing efforts centered in Mumbai. Moreover, our innovation reflects India’s growing capabilities in advanced industrial technologies and sustainable manufacturing solutions.

To protect our intellectual property and reinforce its global significance, we have secured patents for the technology in India, the United States, and Europe. These patents not only validate the novelty of our invention but also underscore its commercial and technological relevance across international markets.

Q: Are you currently marketing and selling SUPRAUNO exclusively within India, or do you also export it to international markets?

A: SUPRAUNO is an emerging technology that has already made the transition from innovation to industrial deployment. We installed its first commercial-scale machine at Arvind Limited in Ahmedabad, India, where it currently operates in a live manufacturing environment. This milestone marks a significant step in validating the technology’s scalability, reliability, and commercial readiness.

At the same time, we are actively pursuing opportunities to expand its global footprint. As international demand for sustainable textile solutions continues to grow, we intend to introduce SUPRAUNO to overseas markets and position it as a viable alternative to conventional water-intensive dyeing technologies worldwide.

Q: What strategies are you planning to adopt to further scale manufacturing capacity of SUPRAUNO?

A: We are now focused on scaling the technology to the next level. At the same time, we have successfully developed laboratory-scale solutions for both yarn dyeing and fiber dyeing, expanding the scope of our supercritical CO₂ platform beyond fabric applications.

Our immediate priority is to commercialize these innovations and bring them to market in the near future. Together, these initiatives, scaling our existing commercial operations, advancing yarn dyeing capabilities, and introducing fiber dyeing solutions, represent the three strategic pillars that will drive our next phase of growth and technological expansion.

Q: Where does your company position itself within the competitive landscape of waterless dyeing machine manufacturing?

A: Historically, CO₂ dyeing technologies have been limited to polyester and dependent on specialized, high-cost dyes, restricting their commercial viability and broader industry adoption.

Our innovation has transformed this landscape. SUPRAUNO uses conventional dyes already employed in water-based textile processing, enabling manufacturers to adopt the technology without disrupting existing supply chains or incurring additional material costs. Furthermore, the system extends supercritical CO₂ dyeing beyond polyester to include a broad spectrum of natural and synthetic fibers.

Equally important, our machines are compact, easy to operate, and designed for seamless integration into existing manufacturing environments. By leveraging familiar dyes and chemicals, we have significantly simplified implementation while enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.
