Built on a strong “can-do” philosophy, the company combines deep local expertise with a customer-centric approach to streamline property maintenance for homeowners, businesses, and property managers alike. Through its expanding franchise network across multiple regions, Candoo Crew continues to strengthen its reputation for reliability, operational flexibility, transparent pricing, and meaningful community engagement through initiatives such as the Candoo Good Project. At its core, the company aims to simplify property care by making maintenance efficient, dependable, and stress-free while creating a trusted nationwide ecosystem of skilled local professionals.
In an exclusive interaction with The Interview World at Franchise India 2026, James McGovern, Head of Growth at Candoo Crew, discusses the company’s core operations, outlines its strategic positioning within the Indian market, explains its business model, and shares his insights on the evolving opportunities and long-term potential of India’s franchise and property services sector. Here are the key highlights from the conversation.
Q: Could you elaborate on the core activities and primary areas of focus of Candoo Crew?
A: Candoo Crew operates as a property services franchise specializing in integrated facility management solutions, with a primary focus on the commercial sector. While the company serves both residential and commercial markets in Australia and New Zealand, it views India as a distinctly different landscape. Consequently, it plans to concentrate predominantly on commercial property services in the Indian market.
The company delivers a comprehensive facility management suite that covers virtually every property-related requirement a client may have. Instead of engaging multiple contractors or investing in separate facility management resources, clients can rely on Candoo Crew as a single-point service partner. This integrated approach simplifies operations, improves efficiency, and ensures consistent service delivery.
To execute this model effectively, the company follows a structured tiered-franchise framework. At the top level, regional master franchise partners oversee specific territories. These partners support franchisees across their respective regions, conduct training programs, generate business inquiries, and coordinate appointment scheduling to maintain operational consistency and market growth.
At the next level, franchisees function primarily as local business development representatives. The company’s telemarketing teams schedule appointments for them, enabling them to focus on relationship-building and brand representation within their local markets. In addition, these franchisees actively participate in business networking platforms such as BNI and Chambers of Commerce to establish connections with key decision-makers and secure commercial contracts.
Once contracts are finalized, the execution responsibility shifts to operating partners—the professionals who deliver the actual services on the ground. These partners already possess domain expertise and operational experience. Rather than functioning as franchise owners, they operate as dedicated delivery partners within the broader ecosystem.
The model closely resembles the operational structure adopted by platform-based service companies such as Urban Company, where skilled service professionals deliver solutions through a centralized business and technology-driven framework. However, Candoo Crew adapts this approach specifically for integrated commercial facility management and property services.
Q: How do you see Candoo Crew positioning itself within the Indian market?
A: Over the past two years, Candoo Crew has established a strong presence across Australia and New Zealand, expanding its operations to more than 100 territories. Significantly, many of the company’s franchise partners originate from India and now reside in these markets. Their familiarity with the brand and confidence in its business model played a pivotal role in sparking interest in bringing the concept to India.
According to the company, several franchisees expressed interest in introducing the model to their families and business networks in India, particularly as they recognized the market potential for organized property and facility management services. This growing demand encouraged Candoo Crew to formally develop and adapt its business framework for the Indian market.
However, the company acknowledges that India presents a distinctly different operating environment compared to Australia and New Zealand. As a result, Candoo Crew has focused carefully on refining its strategy to ensure that the model aligns with local market dynamics, customer expectations, and operational realities. At the same time, the company has leveraged the strength of its existing relationships and business partners from Australia and New Zealand to support its entry into India and establish a solid foundation for expansion.
Q: What is your business model for franchise development?
A: Candoo Crew has structured its business model to create a sustainable and mutually beneficial ecosystem for every stakeholder involved. Under this framework, delivery partners, who are responsible for executing services on the ground, pay a nominal participation fee, although they do not operate as franchise owners. In return, the company provides them with a steady and consistent flow of work opportunities.
Additionally, delivery partners contribute 30 percent of their revenue to the franchisee managing the local territory. This revenue-sharing mechanism forms the core earnings model for franchisees and ensures alignment across the network.
At the regional level, master franchise partners earn a share of the revenue generated by franchisees operating within their territories. Consequently, the structure creates a layered yet collaborative system in which every participant benefits from the overall growth of the business.
Within this model, regional master franchisees primarily function as mentors, trainers, and operational support leaders. They focus on strengthening franchise performance, enhancing capabilities, and helping franchisees scale their local operations effectively. Franchisees, in turn, concentrate on business development, client acquisition, and local brand representation. Meanwhile, delivery partners leverage their technical expertise and industry experience to execute the actual services efficiently on the ground.
By clearly defining responsibilities across each level, Candoo Crew has developed an integrated operational model that combines business development, regional support, and service delivery into a unified and scalable ecosystem.
Q: How do you view the opportunities and dynamics of the Indian market?
A: Candoo Crew views India as a highly promising growth market, particularly when compared with the scale of Australia and New Zealand. As the company points out, Australia has a population of nearly 25 million, while New Zealand accounts for approximately 5 million. Combined, the two markets represent around 30 million people. In contrast, even a fraction of India’s urban commercial market presents a significantly larger opportunity.
According to the company, even if only 20 percent of the Indian market aligns with its target customer base, the potential remains enormous. In fact, the addressable market within Delhi alone could surpass the combined scale of Australia and New Zealand. Consequently, Candoo Crew considers India not only a strategically important market but also one with immense long-term expansion potential.
At the same time, the company recognizes that India operates under a very different business environment. Unlike Australia and New Zealand, the Indian market is considerably more price-sensitive and relationship-driven. Therefore, Candoo Crew believes success will depend on balancing competitive pricing with strong local partnerships and consistently reliable service delivery.
To address these dynamics, the company plans to work closely with its regional partners while continuously refining and testing its operational approach. It also acknowledges that India cannot be approached as a single, uniform market. Cities such as Mumbai and Chandigarh, for example, operate with distinctly different commercial environments, customer expectations, and market behaviours. As a result, Candoo Crew intends to evaluate each territory independently and adapt elements of its business model to suit local conditions wherever necessary.
