AmpereHour Energy, founded by IIT Bombay alumni and power sector experts in 2017, is transforming the way the world stores and manages power. Headquartered in Pune, the company designs and builds modular, scalable lithium-ion energy systems that make power grids smarter, cleaner, and more resilient. Its technology cuts diesel dependence, powers EV fast-charging networks, and optimizes energy costs across industries and continents.
At the heart of this transformation is ELINA, AmpereHour’s intelligent energy management platform. ELINA doesn’t just monitor; it thinks, learns, and acts with precision, empowering businesses to take full control of their energy use.
With over 130 sites across seven countries and more than 1,000 MWh of capacity deployed or in progress, AmpereHour is not merely storing energy; it’s powering the future intelligently.
At the Renewable Energy India Expo 2025, during an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Udyut Goyal, Head of Business Development at AmpereHour, delves into the company’s innovative energy storage solutions and their distinct advantages. He also offers insights into the firm’s expanding export footprint, explains how AmpereHour competes effectively with global players, and highlights its impressive growth trajectory, underscoring bold projections for the next five years.
Here are the key takeaways from his insightful discussion.
Q: Could you elaborate on AmpereHour’s energy storage solutions and the key advantages they offer?
A: We are India’s leading turnkey EPC provider for advanced battery energy storage systems. We partner with developers and utilities to deliver complete, end-to-end solutions that transform how energy is stored, managed, and deployed.
Our systems integrate several critical components, the most significant being the battery container, which accounts for nearly 70% of the total system cost. Complementing it is our Energy Management System (EMS), the intelligent core of our technology. The EMS acts as the brain of the battery, precisely controlling when to charge and discharge energy to maximize efficiency and system life.
While the battery container is a standardized hardware element, true value lies in the intelligence behind it, and that’s where we excel. Our EMS is developed entirely in-house, giving us unmatched control over performance, safety, and customization.
Today, we are recognized as the No. 1 energy storage solutions provider in India, with a proven track record of more than 500 MWh of executed projects. We have already commissioned 100 MWh, commanding nearly 20% of the national market share, and hold over 2.5 GWh in contracted capacity.
With over eight years of experience in this emerging sector, we bring the deepest expertise, the largest dedicated team of over 100 professionals, and the highest safety and quality standards in the industry.
In short, if you’re looking for a single, reliable partner to design, build, and deliver complete battery energy storage solutions, we’re the team that can make it happen.
Q: Could you share whether AmpereHour is an indigenous enterprise and if the company is engaged in exporting its products or services to international markets?
A: Yes, we are a proudly indigenous company designing and manufacturing our products in India. But our vision extends far beyond national borders. We actively export our energy storage solutions and have successfully executed projects across multiple continents.
We have commissioned over 15 MWh of systems in Africa, completed installations in Belgium and other parts of Europe, and delivered advanced solutions in the UAE and Southeast Asia.
In short, our technology is not only made in India, it is powering the world.
Q: How do your products compare in competitiveness to those of international players?
A: Our flagship innovation, the EMS, is our strongest differentiator. In India, no other company has developed a fully indigenous, end-to-end EMS solution. Most players still rely on SCADA-based systems, originally designed for solar applications.
With over eight years of expertise in the energy storage domain, we stand as the first and currently the only Indian company to have built a fully developed, intelligent EMS from the ground up. This system lies at the heart of our technology and defines our leadership in smart energy management.
When it comes to global competition, several Chinese companies offer EMS solutions. However, integrating those systems into Indian infrastructure poses serious challenges, from communication compatibility and algorithmic adaptation to compliance with Indian grid codes and regulations. Moreover, the Ministry of Power mandates that projects seeking Viability Gap Funding (VGF) or other utility incentives must use indigenous EMS solutions.
This policy, combined with our technological maturity, firmly positions us as India’s only provider of a truly homegrown EMS, built for Indian standards, optimized for Indian conditions, and trusted by leading developers and utilities nationwide.
Q: Could you share AmpereHour’s current growth trajectory and your projections for the next five years?
A: Our growth story reflects both persistence and timing. We have been in the market for eight years, steadily building expertise even when large-scale adoption was still a distant conversation. For years, the industry focused on concepts like grid stability and battery integration, but practical implementation remained limited.
That scenario has changed dramatically. Over the past year, the market has accelerated, and we are now executing one of the largest energy storage projects in India. With a current turnover of ₹80 crore, we expect our revenue to grow at least threefold in the near term, driven by the rapid expansion of demand and our already contracted capacities. This growth is not speculative, it’s backed by confirmed projects and a robust execution pipeline.
Looking ahead, as the Indian energy storage market approaches 20 GWh, we are strategically positioned to capture a significant share. Even a 20% market penetration translates to about 4 GWh of capacity for us, a target well within our reach given our leadership, capabilities, and proven track record.
In short, we are not just witnessing the market’s growth, we are leading it.
