In a candid discussion with The Interview World, Sandeep Thakur, Founder and CEO of Zetrance, sheds light on how his company is crafting extraordinary human experiences through extended reality. Here are key excerpts from the insightful interview.
Q: What advancements have you made in the realm of extended reality?
A: Our focus lies in the realm of extended reality (XR) technologies, encompassing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). Additionally, we venture into the domains of Metaverse and Web3, constituting a diverse portfolio. Presently, our primary emphasis lies in the development of AR and VR technologies.
Specifically in VR, we specialize in crafting simulators, with a notable presence in defense applications. A recent milestone includes the creation of a VR simulator for an electric vehicle (EV) battery technology lab, marking a pioneering achievement as the world’s first VR simulator in the EV battery space. Remarkably, we develop all the technology in-house, showcasing our commitment to self-reliance and innovation within India.
Now, let me share details about our ongoing innovative project – a VR haptic suit. This groundbreaking endeavor sets us apart as the first company in India to embark on such a venture. The haptic suit, akin to a jacket and trousers, enhances the VR experience by allowing users to feel the virtual environment. Essentially, it provides realistic simulations, adding a tactile dimension to the visual and auditory sensations in the VR realm.
By donning the haptic suit, users can immerse themselves in a multisensory experience, going beyond visual and audio stimuli. This innovative technology elevates the VR encounter, introducing a new layer of realism through tactile feedback, enriching the overall sensory engagement.
Q: How are you achieving this? Can you provide more details on the underlying technology?
A: We employ advanced technology capable of simulating a range of sensations, including gunshots, itching, and pain—approximately 20 to 25 feelings in total. Additionally, our focus extends to virtual showrooms for retail, transcending conventional 2D virtual stores to create an immersive environment where users can walk and engage in conversations. Our goal involves integrating an AI assistant to aid customers in selecting products tailored to their needs, thereby boosting conversion rates and enhancing upselling opportunities.
Expanding our horizons, we are venturing into the education sector by pioneering AR books. Traditional books with 2D content lack interactivity and immersion, making the learning experience dull. Imagine a scenario where a bio or medical student, eager to grasp the intricacies of the heart, only visualizes a 2D image. What we offer is a transformative approach—utilizing an AR ecosystem to provide a 3D environment accessible from any device, be it a smartphone or tablet.
This innovation allows students to feel the contours of the heart, understand its upper and lower parts, and comprehend its overall functionality. Education becomes not only interesting but also immersive, akin to gamifying the learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding and engagement.
Q: How can you facilitate access to these applications for your end users?
A: We offer specialized products, such as simulators, through an annual subscription model. The frequency of updates varies based on the chosen subscription tier. Additionally, if you prefer a customized simulator from our selection, a one-time setup fee will apply.
Q: What is your vision for the company in the next three to four years?
A: At the core of our mission, encapsulated in our tagline, lies the commitment to revolutionize human experiences. Moving beyond the realms of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), we aim to redefine the way individuals engage with technology. We transcend the conventional label of being merely an AR and VR company; rather, we proudly identify as a human experience company. Moreover, we focus on elevating human experiences, enabling individuals to tangibly connect with what they perceive.
Recognizing how emotions drive human interactions, we strive to immerse individuals in technology that evokes genuine feelings. By leveraging our extended reality (XR) technology, we endeavor to construct a digital realm closely mirroring the intricacies of the real world. Looking ahead to the next 3-4 years, our ambitious goal is to establish the world’s premier XR tech company, rooted in India, pioneering innovation in education, skilling, and training. Our endeavor will catalyze revolutionary transformations across diverse sectors. This underlines our commitment to indigenous technological advancement.
