At the International Summit & Expo on Bioenergy Value Chain, hosted by the Indian Biogas Association, Rajeev Verma, Founder and CEO of Techmark Engineers & Consultants, engaged in an exclusive dialogue with The Interview World. He unveiled the company’s state-of-the-art biogas analysers and gas chromatographs, outlined the future trajectory of biogas technologies, spotlighted emerging innovations, and offered his vision on hydrogen as a green fuel.

Here are the key insights from this compelling conversation.

Q: Can you elaborate on the range of solutions and products that Techmark Engineers & Consultants offers to support the biogas industry?

A: We provide state-of-the-art biogas analysers and gas chromatographs specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of the biogas industry. When producing and selling biogas, accurate quality monitoring becomes critical. Our advanced instruments enable producers to precisely measure gas composition and verify its quality.

This capability is not optional—it’s essential. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), before purchasing biogas, must ensure that the product adheres to IS 16087 standards. They rely on our analysers and chromatographs to perform this crucial verification. Without accurate composition analysis, OMCs cannot proceed with procurement.

In essence, our technology empowers the industry to guarantee compliance, enhance credibility, and streamline the gas trading process.

Q: Which component of biogas plays the most significant role in determining its quality and market value?

A: The price of biogas and bio-CNG that producers receive from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) directly depends on the methane concentration in the gas. Higher methane content translates into higher market value. Simply put, the greater the methane percentage, the better the pricing.

OMCs assess gas quality based on its methane purity—a critical metric in determining commercial viability. Therefore, producers who deliver biogas with superior methane levels consistently secure premium rates.

In this equation, quality drives profitability—and methane concentration is the key.

Q: What is your perspective on the current and future market opportunities for biogas analysers in India?

A: We represent high-precision German and other European technologies, importing and distributing them exclusively in India. Demand for these products has surged, driven by the rapid expansion of the bio-CNG sector. Every biogas plant requires advanced analysers—not just to meet regulatory standards before selling, but also to maintain consistent product quality.

As a result, these analysers have become essential infrastructure across the industry. The market demand continues to grow—and we’re at the forefront of fulfilling it.

Q: How is your company navigating the technological advancements and transitions in biogas analysers?

A: We closely align our offerings with industry demand. Our team designs and develops analysers tailored to evolving market requirements. As industry needs shift, we respond swiftly—adapting our technologies and integrating new features to stay ahead.

Flexibility and innovation drive our product development, ensuring our solutions remain relevant, reliable, and future-ready.

Q: Could you explain how hydrogen analysers differ from biogas analysers within your product portfolio, in terms of technology and application?

A: The hydrogen market is gaining strong momentum, and with it comes the need for precise and versatile measurement technologies. Depending on the application, different tools come into play. For instance, Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCDs) are ideal for general concentration monitoring, while electrochemical sensors are better suited for detecting hydrogen at low parts-per-million (PPM) levels.

Whether the goal is to monitor hydrogen concentration or detect potential leaks, the choice of technology depends entirely on the use case. At Techmark, we offer a comprehensive portfolio of hydrogen measurement solutions—engineered to meet the full spectrum of industry requirements.

Q: What is your outlook on hydrogen as a green fuel for the future, particularly in the context of India’s energy landscape?

A: The current government has placed strong emphasis on renewable energy, with green hydrogen emerging as a key focus area. Significant budget allocations underscore this commitment, signalling clear policy direction. In response, industries across sectors are actively exploring green hydrogen solutions. As a result, the hydrogen sector presents tremendous opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth—and momentum continues to build rapidly.
