In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World during the Mercom India Renewables Summit Expo 2026, Madhav Gadia, Vice President – Business Development, Kalpana Industries, discusses the company’s diverse transformer portfolio and explains the engineering advantages that distinguish its products in the market. He also examines their efficiency, durability, and operational performance, outlines the company’s export growth strategy, and shares insights into its upcoming product roadmap and innovation initiatives. The following are the key highlights from this insightful conversation.
Q: Could you elaborate on your company’s power solutions for renewable energy sectors and explain how they differ from similar products currently available in the market?
A: We manufacture a comprehensive range of transformers specifically designed for the renewable energy sector. Our portfolio includes inverter-duty transformers, auxiliary transformers, rectifier transformers, and transformer solutions for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and wind energy applications. Our products are available in ratings ranging from 500 kVA to 20,000 kVA in the 33 kV class, enabling us to meet diverse project requirements across the clean energy ecosystem.
Among our offerings, inverter-duty transformers represent a highly specialized product category. Unlike conventional power transformers, which primarily perform voltage step-down functions, inverter-duty transformers are engineered to step up the voltage generated by renewable energy systems before it is transmitted to the grid. More importantly, these transformers are designed to withstand the demanding operating conditions associated with renewable power generation.
To ensure superior performance, our inverter-duty transformers incorporate advanced harmonic-handling capabilities, exceptional thermal stability, and robust insulation systems. As a result, they deliver reliable continuous-load performance, maximize operational efficiency, and ensure long-term durability, even under highly dynamic inverter-driven conditions.
Q: How do these transformers perform in terms of efficiency, durability, and overall operational performance?
A: Our transformers are engineered for exceptional reliability and long-term performance. Under normal operating conditions, they deliver a minimum service life of 25 years. Moreover, with periodic maintenance every five to seven years and routine diagnostic testing, their operational lifespan can be extended significantly.
We advocate preventive maintenance because it enables the early detection of potential issues before they develop into major failures. Whenever inspections identify a fault, our teams can promptly rectify it, thereby preserving the transformer’s performance and reliability. Equally important, we never compromise on quality at any stage of design or manufacturing. As a result, our transformers consistently deliver dependable performance throughout their service life and, with proper maintenance, often continue operating well beyond the expected 25-year lifespan.
Q: Are these products marketed exclusively in India, or do you also export them to international markets?
A: At present, Rajasthan remains our primary market. However, we are actively expanding our presence across other regions of India to strengthen our national footprint. At the same time, we are pursuing international growth opportunities and have already received export inquiries from customers in the Middle East and Africa.
Building on this momentum, we expect to commence transformer exports by the end of the current financial year. This marks an important milestone in our growth strategy as we expand beyond the domestic market and establish Kalpana Industries as a trusted global supplier of high-quality engineered power solutions.
Q: What new products and technological innovations do you plan to introduce over the next five years?
A: This year, we introduced our new range of inverter-duty transformers to address the evolving requirements of the renewable energy sector. In addition, we expanded our portfolio by launching a comprehensive range of furnace transformers, further strengthening our capabilities in specialized power solutions.
Beyond these offerings, we have also introduced a broad portfolio of transformers engineered for specialized applications. These include isolation transformers, earthing transformers, rectifier transformers, converter-duty transformers, wind energy transformers, and EV charging transformers. Each of these products addresses specific operational requirements while delivering high efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance. Through these strategic product launches, we continue to diversify our portfolio and reinforce our commitment to supporting the rapidly growing renewable energy and power infrastructure sectors.
