VID FIREKILL, headquartered in Svendborg, Denmark, leads the global charge in water mist fire suppression technology. Since its founding in 2008, the company has fused ingenuity with engineering precision, crafting low-pressure water mist systems that redefine safety while minimizing environmental impact. These systems offer the reliability of traditional sprinklers yet use far less water, reducing both damage and resource consumption. Efficiency meets responsibility at every stage.
Breaking new ground, VID FIREKILL became the first in the world to secure FM Approval for Hazard Category 2 (HC2) and Hazard Category 3 (HC3) occupancies. This milestone positioned its water mist systems as the benchmark for industries where protection cannot fail. From industrial complexes and data centers to offshore platforms and heritage sites, the company safeguards high-value assets with unmatched performance.
Certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, VID FIREKILL seamlessly integrates innovation, quality, and sustainability. Its expanding global presence demonstrates a bold ambition: not merely to extinguish fires but to anticipate and outpace them. The company sets the gold standard for modern fire protection.
At FSIE 2025, The Interview World spoke exclusively with Miguel Martinez, Chief Commercial Officer of VID FIREKILL. He detailed how water mist solutions protect data centers without harming sensitive equipment, highlighted their proven effectiveness, explored India’s vast market potential, and shared insights into emerging innovations. His conversation offered powerful takeaways on the future of fire suppression.
Q: Can you elaborate on the specific fire suppression solutions that VID FIREKILL has developed for data centers, and how they address the unique risks and requirements of such critical facilities?
A: VID FIREKILL stands as a global leader in water mist fire protection. The company designs and manufactures water mist solutions for a wide spectrum of applications, with data centers emerging as a critical focus. Recognizing the complex risks within these facilities, VID FIREKILL has tailored its systems to safeguard every layer of the infrastructure. From white spaces and corridors to offices, battery storage areas, loading docks, and storage systems, its solutions provide end-to-end protection.
As specialists in water mist technology, the company relentlessly tests its systems against the most rigorous global fire protection protocols. These include the demanding standards of FM Approvals, which ensure uncompromising safety and reliability. By subjecting each application to extensive evaluation, VID FIREKILL has achieved a rare distinction: the ability to deliver a fully FM-approved water mist solution designed for the entire data center environment.
Through this commitment, VID FIREKILL not only secures critical assets but also sets a new benchmark in fire protection for the digital age.
Q: Since water mist is being used in data centers, how do you ensure it does not adversely affect sensitive electrical equipment, servers, or racks?
A: Water mist technology operates through the deployment of ultra-fine droplets. This design uses 80 to 90 percent less water than conventional sprinklers, delivering efficiency without compromise. Because the droplets are so small, they do not harm sensitive equipment. Naturally, if equipment is already ablaze, it will sustain damage from both fire and smoke. Yet the mist itself targets only the affected rack—the precise source of the fire.
This localized action marks a decisive advantage. Unlike gas suppression systems, which flood an entire room regardless of the fire’s location, water mist confines its suppression to the exact point of ignition. The result is precision protection: extinguishing flames where they exist while sparing unaffected equipment and infrastructure.
Q: In the event of a fire incident, how quickly can your water mist solution suppress and extinguish the flames?
A: Yes. The system is specifically designed and rigorously tested to control fire and prevent its spread. It is water-based, engineered not as a complete extinguishing solution but as a highly effective control mechanism. In practice, this means the system suppresses the fire long enough for responders to enter and extinguish the remaining flames.
The priority is clear: protect the infrastructure. Water mist achieves this with remarkable precision. Compared to traditional sprinklers, it delivers far greater effectiveness in safeguarding facilities while minimizing damage.
Q: How do you view India as a market for your fire suppression solutions, and what opportunities do you foresee here?
A: We are not new to India. For more than a decade, we have built our presence through trusted local partners. Fortunately, these partners have already installed our solutions in major facilities, including five to six Reliance data centers, as well as sites operated by NTT and STT GDC across multiple cities.
Our growth mirrors the rapid expansion of India’s data center market. We continue to scale with this momentum, strengthening our footprint in both data centers and broader industrial applications. More importantly, we remain committed to sharing our expertise and technology with the Indian industry.
Our mission is clear: safeguard India’s critical infrastructure while enabling resilience and reliability in its fast-growing digital economy. And we are here to stay.
Q: With new fire suppressant materials emerging, what innovations are you incorporating into your existing products to stay ahead in technology and effectiveness?
A: Innovation today is driven by the rising fire load in modern data centers. To address this challenge, we must design solutions capable of coping with these evolving risks. Fortunately, industry standards are evolving alongside. FM Global, for example, has revised its protocols to reflect new realities.
The presence of lithium-ion batteries in data centers, combined with the density of cable trays in data halls, demands more stringent testing. FM Global has responded by creating protocols that allow systems to be tested against these exact hazards, ensuring performance under real-world conditions.
At VID FIREKILL, we have embraced this rigor. We recently completed testing under the Hazard Category 2 and Hazard Category 3 protocols at FM Approvals in Boston. The outcome was decisive: we secured FM Approval for both categories. This recognition confirms that our systems are not only innovative but also capable of addressing the newest and most complex fire loads in data centers.
