TOFWERK is a Switzerland-based analytical technology company founded in 2002. It specializes in ultra-sensitive time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS), combining high speed, exceptional sensitivity, and high mass resolution to deliver real-time chemical insights for demanding research and industrial applications.
The company develops advanced mass spectrometers and integrated analytical solutions for a wide range of applications, including air quality, atmospheric chemistry, semiconductor manufacturing, food, flavour and fragrance, materials science, and other specialized fields. Its portfolio spans the Vocus, icpTOF, fibTOF, ecTOF, and mipTOF platforms, complemented by customized OEM solutions designed to address specific customer and industry requirements.
With more than 1,200 instruments deployed worldwide, TOFWERK has established a strong global presence in high-performance analytical instrumentation. In January 2026, TOFWERK became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bruker Corporation, combining TOFWERK’s Swiss heritage, advanced technical expertise, and customer-focused approach with Bruker’s global reach and resources. This strategic integration strengthens TOFWERK’s ability to serve a broad range of customers and applications worldwide while continuing to deliver innovative, high-performance analytical solutions with the reputation and quality associated with both organizations.
In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at SEMICON India 2026, Dr. Ramakrishna Ramisetty, Director, India Commercial Operations, TOFWERK, outlined the company’s key product lines, technological advances, and emerging areas of innovation. He also highlighted the growing opportunities for TOFWERK’s technologies in India and discussed the potential focus areas in the country.
Further, Dr. Ramisetty shared his perspective on developing next-generation products for deep-tech applications and examined the evolving opportunities emerging from India’s semiconductor and advanced manufacturing ecosystem. He also offered his views on the significance of SEMICON India 2026 as a platform for technology collaboration, industry engagement, and business development.
Here are the key takeaways from the conversation.
Q: What are TOFWERK’s key product lines, major innovations, and notable products developed and delivered to global markets?
A: TOFWERK is a Swiss analytical technology company founded 25 years ago by Dr. Marc Gonin and Dr. Katrin Fuhrer. The company specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced time-of-flight mass spectrometers for demanding applications, including atmospheric science, semiconductor research, and food and beverage analysis. Its instruments can simultaneously detect a broad range of chemical compounds in real time, delivering rapid and comprehensive chemical insights. This capability represents a key advantage of time-of-flight mass spectrometry over technologies such as quadrupole mass spectrometers. By combining speed, broad chemical coverage, and real-time measurement, TOFWERK enables researchers and industries to analyse complex chemical environments with exceptional efficiency and precision.
Q: How do you view India’s market potential and opportunities for TOFWERK’s products and technologies?
A: India presents significant potential for TOFWERK, particularly in atmospheric science and real-time air-pollution monitoring. This is a critical and rapidly growing segment, given the country’s persistent air-quality challenges. Globally, TOFWERK instruments have established a strong presence, with hundreds of units deployed in countries such as China for real-time pollution monitoring.
India faces an equally urgent need, particularly in Delhi, where severe air pollution demands accurate, continuous, and high-resolution measurement. TOFWERK can make a substantial contribution by enabling real-time measurement of atmospheric pollutants, capabilities that many conventional monitoring technologies cannot provide with the same level of reliable chemical specificity and temporal resolution.
This represents a key area of our work in India. At the same time, the Indian government is investing in self-sustaining monitoring infrastructure to strengthen weather forecasting, nowcasting, atmospheric research, and climate studies on the name of Mission Mausam. TOFWERK is well positioned to support these national priorities.
The launch of Mission Mausam by the Ministry of Earth Sciences further reinforces this opportunity. We are already supplying instruments for the initiative. Across India, strategically located supersites can provide real-time atmospheric chemical composition alongside meteorological parameters, creating a comprehensive foundation for advanced weather, air-quality, and climate research.

Q: Given that India is a major market for these products, are you considering establishing manufacturing operations in India, or will you continue supplying the Indian market from overseas?
A: This is fundamentally a managerial decision. However, the opportunity extends beyond a single manufacturing location. Bruker is a U.S.-based company with multiple divisions, and it manufactures its products across several countries. For example, TOFWERK systems are manufactured in Switzerland, while XRF and other product lines are manufactured in Germany. Nevertheless, India presents significant potential for both market expansion and local manufacturing. In the longer term, we could also explore leveraging the Government of India’s Make in India initiative to establish manufacturing capabilities locally, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and create a more sustainable presence in the Indian market.
Q: How do you view SEMICON India 2026, and what opportunities do you believe such events create for the semiconductor industry and ecosystem?
A: The semiconductor industry is advancing at an extraordinary pace, creating significant opportunities for Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (TOFMS), particularly for high-precision chemical analysis and process control. As manufacturers transition to increasingly smaller technology nodes, achieving tighter process control, higher yield, and greater manufacturing consistency becomes critical. This requires a precise understanding of chemical conditions throughout the fabrication process—from deposition and etching to surface and equipment cleanliness.
TOFMS can provide real-time, highly sensitive analysis of process gases and chemical species, enabling manufacturers to optimize deposition and etching processes, accelerate precursor development, monitor high-purity gases, and detect airborne molecular contamination (AMC). By providing comprehensive chemical information with high sensitivity and rapid response, TOFMS can support improved process performance, contamination control, and overall semiconductor manufacturing quality.
Manufacturers therefore need high-performance analytical systems capable of detecting and characterizing a broad range of chemical compounds with exceptional sensitivity, accuracy, and speed. This is precisely where our technology has a strong advantage. Time-of-flight mass spectrometry can provide the comprehensive chemical insight required to support increasingly sophisticated semiconductor manufacturing.
Moreover, our systems have already gained recognition and adoption across major semiconductor markets. Leading companies in East Asia, including Japan, South Korea, and China, as well as organizations in the United States and Europe, are using our technology. This established global presence positions time-of-flight mass spectrometry as an important analytical technology for the semiconductor industry’s next phase of innovation.
Q: What innovations do you envision over the next five years, particularly in emerging deep-tech domains such as AI, ML, and IoT?
A: With ongoing technological developments worldwide, mass spectrometry will generate increasingly large and complex datasets. Time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometers, in particular, can produce vast volumes of data by capturing numerous chemical compounds across mass spectra. When deployed continuously in the field, an instrument could generate gigabytes of data every day. Therefore, conventional analytical approaches alone will not be sufficient to process, interpret, and extract meaningful insights from such high-dimensional datasets. We need machine learning (ML) and advanced data-analytics methods to analyse these signals rapidly, accurately, and at scale.
We are already working to integrate advanced data analysis capabilities into our instruments. At the same time, we are incorporating emerging technologies such as real-time chemical analysis and spatial papping of gaseous pollutants & metal particles and mobile monitoring platforms. These advances will fundamentally expand how and where we use analytical instruments.
Instead of keeping an instrument permanently installed at a single location, we can deploy it in a vehicle and move it wherever monitoring is required. Miniaturized instruments can operate across roads, industrial sites, and urban environments, enabling measurements directly at the point of interest. By combining mobility, real-time analysis, IoT connectivity, and intelligent data processing, we are transforming mass spectrometry from a stationary analytical platform into a flexible, connected, and field-ready monitoring system.
