Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara and Poonch districts during the night of April 27–28, officials said. The Indian Army responded “swiftly and effectively.” This marks the first ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector. Tensions have escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people and was linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. In response, India expelled Pakistani military attaches, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, and shut down the Attari transit post. Pakistan retaliated by suspending bilateral agreements, including the Simla Accord. Police released sketches of three suspects.
