At Gifts World Expo 2025, The Interview World sat down with Sucheta Deepak, Director – Marketing at Oblique Designs LLP, for an exclusive conversation. She shared insights into the company’s innovative approach to sustainable product design, the rising demand for eco-conscious consumer goods, and the sustainable manufacturing practices Oblique has integrated into its production process. She also shed light on their growing export strategy and laid out the company’s long-term vision for scaling growth while staying rooted in sustainability.
Here are the key takeaways from our conversation with her.
Q: Could you elaborate on some of the innovative sustainable product designs developed by Oblique Designs?
A: Oblique Designs, founded just over two and a half years ago, has rapidly established itself as a proudly Indian manufacturing brand. With two fully operational factories in Bengaluru, the company designs and produces every product in-house, ensuring complete control over quality and craftsmanship.
Design innovation remains central to Oblique’s identity. Led by in-house designer Nikita, the creative team handles all aspects of product design internally. This approach ensures each bag reflects the brand’s core philosophy: blending functionality, minimalism, and sustainability.
Oblique began its journey with a full range of canvas-based products, setting the tone for its sustainable ethos. Early on, the company also introduced jute and canvas offerings, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible materials.
Now, in 2025, Oblique is expanding its sustainable portfolio. The company is set to launch two new collections made from recycled polyester, further strengthening its position in the eco-conscious market. With every product line, Oblique continues to champion the ‘Made in India’ movement, offering smart, stylish solutions for a sustainable future.
Q: How do you assess the market potential for sustainable products, especially given their typically higher price points? Do you see growing consumer willingness to pay a premium for sustainability?
A: So far, we’ve successfully positioned Oblique as a premium and exclusive brand, and the market has responded positively. Customers recognize the elevated quality we offer and are willing to pay for it.
We’ve proven that when you deliver superior craftsmanship, people value it. Over the past two and a half years, we’ve firmly established Oblique as a high-end label within the sustainable product space. Encouragingly, even our eco-friendly offerings have gained strong acceptance at premium price points, reinforcing that quality and sustainability can, and do, coexist at the top end of the market.
Q: Are sustainable practices integrated across your entire manufacturing process, from sourcing raw materials to delivering the finished product?
A: We maintain strict quality and process control at our two manufacturing facilities, both located in Bengaluru. These factories have over 12 years of operational experience and follow well-established, standardized procedures. The teams there are well-versed in handling high-volume, high-quality production.
In fact, we manufacture for major apparel brands like Allen Solly and Peter England. This long-standing association has helped us streamline operations and consistently meet the stringent quality benchmarks and certification requirements—especially for eco-friendly products.
Previously, the factories primarily engaged in white labelling for leading domestic and international brands. While a section of the operation still supports that model, we’ve now taken a bold step forward by launching our own label, Oblique. This transition marks a strategic evolution from being a backend manufacturer to building a distinct, premium brand identity of our own.
Q: Are your products being exported internationally? If so, which countries or regions are your key export markets?
A: We’ve recently taken our first steps into exports under the Oblique brand. So far, we’ve completed a couple of shipments, most notably to Czechoslovakia.
While exports aren’t our primary focus at the moment, we seized the opportunity when it arose. Looking ahead, we plan to actively explore international markets more strategically within the next year or two, once we’ve further consolidated our presence in India.
Q: How do you envisage the company’s growth and expansion over the next five to ten years?
A: We aim to become one of India’s leading homegrown bag brands. With our commitment to quality, design, and sustainability, we’re confident we’re on the path to earning that position.
