The Interview World

Enter the distinguished realm of Manjushree Group, where innovation and product leadership have been the guiding principles for over four decades. Their steadfast commitment to customer-centricity has not only propelled remarkable success but also marked a significant achievement in 2020. Expanding on this legacy, Manjushree proudly unveils Manjushree Spntek, a pioneering venture dedicated to manufacturing high-performance nonwoven fabrics for the hygiene and medical industry.

In India, the adoption of superior-quality nonwoven fabrics has been hindered by entrepreneurs’ reluctance to invest in European plant and machinery setups, renowned for their unmatched production standards. Fabrics produced from substandard Chinese equipment often fail to meet the stringent safety, hygiene, and comfort standards expected by users.

At Manjushree Spntek, they embark on a bold endeavor to redefine industry standards by delivering unparalleled quality nonwovens. Their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, established in partnership with Reicofil, Germany, stands as a testament to this commitment, heralding the dawn of the world’s first Smart Spunmelt Technology. To further enhance fabric performance, they have integrated the advanced Italian A.Celli Smart Treatment Line, offering a range of value-added treatments at competitive prices.

Breaking new ground in the Indian market, Manjushree transcends conventional fabric provision by offering a selection of surface treatments, including anti-viral, anti-microbial, and botanical extract coatings, to esteemed customers. The resulting fabric boasts enhanced features, superior texture, and unmatched functionality, adhering strictly to the highest global safety standards.

In a candid interaction with The Interview World, Kiran Kulkarni, Senior Officer of Sales and Marketing at Manjushree Spntek, illuminates the company’s pioneering efforts in crafting innovative non-woven materials tailored for the healthcare sector. Below are the pivotal takeaways from his insightful discussions.

Q: What are the latest non-woven materials being manufactured by Manjushree, and could you provide more information about them?

A: In 1982, Vimal Kedia founded Manjushree Plastics, marking the beginning of our journey. Over the years, we have evolved into Manjushree Technopack, a pioneering force in rigid plastic packaging across South East Asia. Now, we’re recognized as innovators, revolutionizing rigid plastic packaging for the better.

Having established ourselves as world leaders in this field, we are expanding our horizons into the nonwoven sector under the banner of Manjushree Spntek. We aim to raise the bar for nonwoven applications in medical, hygiene, home furnishing, and protective equipment.

Diversifying our product range, we offer nonwoven fabrics with varying GSMs. Our commitment to delivering superior solutions has led us to adopt cutting-edge technology. At Manjushree Spntek, we utilize the world’s first Smart Spunmelt manufacturing line from Reifenhäuser Reicofil, Germany. This state-of-the-art technology ensures unparalleled quality and performance, with 25% finer uniformity in our fabrics compared to others.

Furthermore, we boast in-house printing and lamination capabilities, allowing us to produce fabrics ranging from 10 to 100 GSM. While our primary focus remains on medical and hygiene applications, we’re now venturing into value-added fabrics. With advanced lamination techniques, we can incorporate features such as extrusion and breathability, catering to the needs of personal protective equipment.

Q: What types of medical garment materials is your company currently manufacturing, and could you provide further elaboration on their specifications and applications?

A: Ensuring the safety of patients, doctors, and healthcare workers within medical facilities is paramount. The potential risks are consistently life-threatening. That’s why we’ve engineered our nonwovens specifically to address this crucial need—a robust, impenetrable shield to safeguard those on the frontlines!

Within the medical sector, our range includes surgical gowns, drapes, masks, medical coveralls, isolation gowns, sterile wraps, and underpads. We offer products compliant with AAMI Levels 2, 3, and 4, with Level 3 being particularly challenging to achieve, but we’ve mastered it. Our focus is squarely on meeting the stringent requirements of the hygiene and medical industries, where we stand out with only a handful of competitors. Notably, Sidwin Fabrics competes with us in India, yet we proudly lead this sector within the country.

Q: What differentiates AAMI Level 3 nonwovens from standard clothing materials?

A: Everyday clothing is designed with comfort and style in mind, suitable for regular wear. In contrast, AAMI Level 3 nonwovens are engineered for specialized use in medical environments, where stringent safety standards are paramount. These nonwovens play a crucial role as barriers against fluids and microorganisms, particularly essential during surgical procedures and infectious disease control measures. Unlike typical clothing, AAMI Level 3 nonwovens undergo extensive testing procedures to ensure they meet specific performance criteria, emphasizing their durability and protective qualities. Thus, while regular clothes cater to fashion and comfort needs, AAMI Level 3 nonwovens prioritize safety and infection control, serving as indispensable components in safeguarding healthcare professionals and patients alike in medical settings.

Q: What certifications do you hold to meet the stringent requirements of AAMI Level 2, 3, and 4 for nonwovens?

A: Our company holds a variety of certifications, including EN-13975, 16 CFR 1610, ASTM F-1670/1671, ASTM D-6978, EN-868-2, ISO 11607-1 DIN 58953-6, Oekotex Standard, and AATCC 100. These certifications demonstrate our unwavering commitment to both quality and safety. Each certification is meticulously acquired, ensuring that our products consistently meet the highest standards set by the industry.

From the stringent criteria of EN-13975 to the meticulous testing protocols of ASTM F-1670/1671 and ASTM D-6978, we leave no aspect of quality assurance unaddressed. Our dedication to consumer safety is underscored by our compliance with 16 CFR 1610. Furthermore, our adherence to EN-868-2 and ISO 11607-1 emphasizes our focus on maintaining impeccable packaging integrity and sterility.

In addition, our conformity with DIN 58953-6 reflects our commitment to internationally recognized standards in medical device manufacturing. Moreover, the inclusion of Oekotex Standard and AATCC 100: 2019 certifications highlights our eco-conscious approach and dedication to sustainability across all facets of our operations.

With these certifications, we not only meet but exceed industry benchmarks, providing our customers with peace of mind and confidence in the quality and reliability of our products.

Q: Are you exporting these products? If so, what are your destinations?

A: Certainly! We’re actively engaged in serving both domestic and international markets, with a particular emphasis on exporting to Southeast Asian countries at present. Moreover, we’ve commenced our venture into the European markets, a move we deem timely and promising. With all requisite certifications firmly in place, we anticipate a significant breakthrough soon. Our strategic approach ensures that we capitalize on opportunities and solidify our presence in diverse markets, driving sustainable growth and success.

Q: What strategies or methods do you employ to ensure that the cost of your products remains affordable, particularly maintaining it at or below Rs. 5 per square meter of cloth?

A: Our fabric production can reach as low as 10 GSM, translating to a cost of Rs. 5 per square meter. Primarily utilized in the diaper industry, these materials are indispensable for both baby and adult diapers. Manufacturers commonly opt for nonwovens ranging from 9 GSM to 15 GSM for their diaper production. They rely on these fabrics due to their specific properties and suitability for the intended purpose. Understanding the significance of this industry, we prioritize offering economically viable fabric options to cater to the needs of diaper manufacturers, ensuring both quality and affordability in our products.
