At its foundation, the company’s mission is clear: to transform conventional buildings into healthier, higher-performing spaces where people can live and work more effectively.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at Indusfood Manufacturing 2026, John Higgins, CEO of IllumiPure, details the company’s breakthrough innovations in the LED lighting domain. He articulates why white LED solutions represent a decisive advancement over blue LED technologies, explains how global manufacturing is steadily pivoting toward white LED adoption, and analyzes the market’s increasingly positive response to these solutions. Moreover, he positions white LED not merely as a product evolution but as an emerging industry-wide movement poised to reshape lighting standards in the years ahead.

The following are the key takeaways from this insightful discussion.

Q: What breakthrough innovations has IllumiPure contributed to modern white LED lighting solutions?

A: We have introduced a truly revolutionary LED engineered with an exceptionally strict and precisely controlled spectrum. As a result, this spectrum delivers a rare combination of benefits, beginning with continuous disinfection of both air and surfaces. At the same time, it remains completely safe for humans and animals. In fact, it is the only white LED in the world certified under IEC 62471, a designation that confirms it is 100 percent safe. By contrast, conventional LEDs typically fall into risk group one and, in some cases, risk group two, indicating potential hazards to human health.

Beyond safety, this white LED fundamentally improves the lighting experience. It emits a white light that is softer on the eyes, more comfortable to work under, and better aligned with natural circadian rhythms. Because we design and control the LED at the core of the system, the overall lighting solution delivers superior quality. It lasts longer, operates without flicker, and enhances visual comfort while maintaining the highest safety standards. Crucially, it achieves all of this while continuously disinfecting both air and surfaces, redefining what modern lighting can and should deliver.

Q: How is your product better than existing blue LED solutions, and what are the negative effects of blue LEDs on human well-being?

A: A substantial body of scientific research now makes one point unmistakably clear: blue LEDs, and white LEDs that rely on high-energy 450-nanometer blue emitters, pose measurable risks to human health. Specifically, this spectrum strains the eyes, damages the skin, and disrupts natural circadian rhythms. In children, the impact is even more pronounced. As circadian balance erodes, overstimulation increases, leading to heightened excitability and difficulty maintaining normal sleep cycles.

At the physiological level, prolonged exposure accelerates ocular fatigue and contributes to degeneration at the back of the eye. Moreover, because these high-energy sources offer little ocular comfort, visual strain sets in quickly. Eyes tire faster, halos appear around light sources, and sustained focus becomes increasingly difficult. Yet, rather than addressing these shortcomings, much of the industry continues to push lumen output higher in pursuit of brightness. In doing so, manufacturers intensify energy exposure and inadvertently increase the risk to human health, making already problematic lighting systems even more hazardous.

Q: Is the global lighting industry undergoing a shift from blue LED–centric solutions toward white LED technologies?

A: At its core, our solution remains a true white LED, just like conventional lighting. We still produce white light through a chemical conversion process. However, the critical difference lies beneath the surface. Instead of relying on a high-energy 450-nanometer deep blue emitter, we use a 405-nanometer source that sits significantly lower on the spectrum. As a result, the light shifts out of the hazardous blue region while preserving the appearance of clean, natural white light, the same white illumination you see above you right now.

This distinction becomes immediately evident in real-world use. When you stand under our lighting and then step into another booth illuminated by conventional white LEDs, subtle but meaningful differences emerge. Notice the glare, the surface sheen, and the way light reflects off objects. More importantly, pay attention to how your eyes feel when you read. Then return to our space and view the same material under our lights. Without exception, the reduction in strain and the increase in visual comfort become unmistakable.

Q: What market response are you receiving for white LED solutions, and how will cost influence their adoption and usage?

A: Our solution is priced very close to conventional LED lighting. However, it delivers far greater value because both the LED and the fixture are engineered to a significantly higher standard. We are not merely illuminating a space; we are actively delivering measurable outcomes. That reality carries responsibility. Because our lighting does more than turn on, dim, or get replaced, we hold ourselves to building the highest-quality product possible. We make clear, evidence-based claims about what our light achieves, and our engineering must consistently uphold those claims.

That commitment is resonating powerfully at the food show. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and immediate. As we explain the shortcomings of conventional LEDs, people recognize the issues instantly. They have experienced the eye strain, the fatigue, and the discomfort themselves. Then they spend a short time under our lighting, and the difference becomes unmistakable. The shift in comfort is not theoretical; it is felt, and that lived experience is what ultimately convinces them.

Q: Do you foresee the adoption of white LED evolving into a broader movement in the coming years?

A: Absolutely, we are disrupting the market. The LED industry is long overdue for a fundamental reset, and we are entering at precisely the right moment. We have secured worldwide patents to protect our white LED innovations, but more importantly, we have proven performance in the field. Some of our lights have operated for more than thirteen years and still deliver over 95 percent of their original lumen output. In this industry, that level of longevity is virtually unheard of. By comparison, many consumer LEDs begin to noticeably dim within six months.

We cannot afford that kind of degradation because we make substantive claims about what our white LED technology does. Our lighting influences circadian rhythms and actively disinfects air and surfaces. To sustain those outcomes, we must maintain uncompromising quality over time. That same discipline extends to sustainability. Conventional LEDs fail and are discarded as complete fixtures. Our approach is fundamentally different. Customers can replace individual components, drivers, LED strips, or plastics, while the fixture bodies carry a lifetime warranty. In every respect, white LED represents a different model, a different standard, and ultimately, a different world from traditional LED lighting.
