The Interview World

Flux Motors Pvt. Ltd. is a dynamic tech startup crafting autonomous solutions for diverse industries, with a particular focus on agriculture. The startup harnesses the power of cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, IoT, computer vision, LiDAR, and AI to deliver ground-breaking products for the farm sector. Established in 2022, Flux Motors has significantly strengthened its research and development (R&D) efforts, prioritizing innovation to streamline agricultural processes.

With a commitment to automation, Flux Motors has unveiled state-of-the-art robotic tractors designed to seamlessly execute all farming tasks. These innovative machines can be effortlessly controlled through a remote device, offering farmers enhanced efficiency. The startup is on a trajectory of continuous R&D acceleration, aiming to create comprehensive autonomous products that operate without the need for human intervention.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Vikash Shah, the CEO and Founder of Flux Motors, sheds light on how his startup tackles the pressing issue of labor shortage in the agricultural sector. Here, we present the key highlights from his insightful interview.

Q: What specific innovations have you spearheaded in your products?

A: Presently, we have successfully developed a compact robotic device, essentially a miniature tractor. Looking ahead, the demand for manual labor will rise, even as the pool of available laborers continues to dwindle, an ongoing trend.

Currently, the cost of hiring one laborer for a day stands at Rs. 1000. However, when considering the overall expense for a workforce, the figures quickly accumulate. For instance, if 10 laborers are required daily, the cost amounts to Rs. 10,000 per day, and when extrapolated for a month (multiplied by 30), the total becomes a substantial monthly expenditure.

In contrast, investing in and acquiring our robotic machine proves to be a financially prudent alternative. This automated system can seamlessly perform a myriad of tasks previously undertaken by manual labor, spanning from grass cutting to rice and wheat harvesting. It effectively handles the entire agricultural process, from field preparation and cultivation to planting and harvesting.

Similar to a traditional tractor, our machine also comes with various attachments tailored for specific agricultural activities. These attachments include tools for crop planning, cutting rice and wheat, and specialized implements for diverse crops. In terms of field preparation, specific attachments cater to the task, ensuring efficiency and precision. This versatility extends to field creation, with dedicated attachments for the purpose.

In summary, our robotic solution not only streamlines agricultural operations but also offers a cost-effective and efficient alternative to the diminishing labor force.

Q: Could you confirm whether all the attachments mentioned for the robotic tractors are currently available?

A: We have all the attachments readily available. Upon purchasing this product, three essential attachments are included. One of these attachments is a water sprayer designed to evenly distribute pesticides across your land, grass, or any section of your paddy field. This sprayer is especially useful for orchards containing apples and mangoes, allowing you to effectively apply pesticides to the trees. Additionally, the package includes a convenient trolley for easy transportation of the equipment.

Q: How much does the robotic tractor cost in total, including all associated expenses?

A: The base price begins at 3.5 lakh rupees, and this amount goes up when opting for the autonomous version. In autonomous mode, the vehicle operates independently, utilizing advanced technologies. It achieves this through two key processes: LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and image processing. The system employs LiDAR for spatial awareness, while image processing enables the vehicle to comprehend its surroundings, determining tasks, locations, and areas of operation. This sophisticated use of computer vision technology empowers the system to perform various tasks effectively.

Q: What tools do you employ to effectively manage the automation features in the tractor you are discussing?

A: We currently employ a proprietary embedded system for our operations, the details of which I am unable to reveal. This system serves as a result of our research and development efforts. Unfortunately, due to confidentiality concerns, we cannot share extensive information about it. Nevertheless, we have successfully designed and implemented devices that effectively automate various aspects of farming operations.

Q: What are the key operational considerations and user interface features that facilitate the effective management of this robotic tractor for farmers?

A: We offer a convenient remote-control device, which operates autonomously or can be controlled remotely. To use it, simply switch it on and use the small joystick provided to manipulate the equipment’s movement. You have the flexibility to move it forward, backward, and make 360-degree turns effortlessly. These products offer remote-controlled or semi-autonomous features, providing versatility in operation.

Q: How do you envision implementing and managing autonomous products within our organization’s strategic framework?

A: The enhanced model is now autonomous. Previously, the vehicles were somewhat large, making it impractical to showcase them here. However, we are currently exhibiting the remote-controlled version. In future iterations, you’ll have the option to switch to a remote as well. The previous large switch can be seen, which used to activate the autonomous mode. Currently, we’re in the research and development phase for this autonomous product. Once the design is complete, we’ll also be able to disclose more information.

Q: What is the total number of units of this product that have been sold to date?

A: We’ve successfully sold over 6 to 7 vehicles, serving as both the principal prototype and a vital tool for business development testing. The designated individuals actively engage in utilizing and conducting rigorous testing on these vehicles. Within the next 2 to 3 months, we plan to officially launch this innovative vehicle to the civilian market. At present, we are in the testing phase with government entities to ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Once we receive the necessary certifications for approval, we will be ready to proceed with the official launch.
