Ferrovia Tech Pvt. Ltd. stands at the forefront of India’s railway engineering and manufacturing landscape, delivering high-precision components and integrated systems for the rail transport sector. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Kolkata, the company operates under the leadership of women entrepreneurs and strongly advances the national vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The company designs and manufactures a diverse portfolio of mission-critical railway products, including inter-vehicular couplers, wheelset earthing equipment, relays, contactors, UIC plug-and-socket systems, and remote-control cables. Moreover, Ferrovia Tech integrates advanced investment casting technologies with rigorous quality assurance protocols and comprehensive electrical and mechanical testing processes. As a result, the company consistently delivers safe, reliable, and high-performance railway solutions that strengthen India’s import-substitution capabilities while meeting the evolving demands of domestic and international markets.

In an exclusive interaction with The Interview World at InnoMetro, Rajesh Singhal, Board Member, Ferrovia Tech discusses the company’s cutting-edge engineering solutions and underscores its commitment to indigenous manufacturing. He also shares insights into Ferrovia Tech’s strategic sectoral focus, outlines the next generation of innovations and products under development, and presents the company’s long-term export ambitions. Here are the key highlights from this insightful conversation.

Q: Could you elaborate on the technical solutions and innovations that Ferrovia Tech offers to the railway sector?

A: We specialize in high-precision machining of metal components and manufacture advanced electrical relays for the Indian Railways. These systems are currently deployed in LHB coaches as well as local passenger coaches. At the same time, we are strategically expanding our footprint into the metro rail segment. Since both the railway and metro ecosystems operate under identical UIC standards, the solutions we currently supply to Indian Railways can be seamlessly integrated into metro rail systems as well.

Moreover, we maintain a fully integrated in-house manufacturing ecosystem. We design and develop our own moulds and dies, while carrying out forging, casting, and moulding operations within our own facilities. This vertically integrated approach enables us to ensure superior quality control, operational efficiency, and manufacturing precision across every stage of production.

In addition, we leverage advanced manufacturing technologies, including VMCs, CNC machines, turn-mill centres, and laser welding systems, to deliver exceptionally high levels of accuracy, consistency, and engineering excellence. These capabilities collectively define the core strength of our manufacturing operations.

Q: Are these products fully manufactured in India, or are certain components sourced from international suppliers?

A: Every product we manufacture is entirely made in India. We operate our own state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kolkata, which enables us to maintain complete control over production quality, engineering precision, and operational efficiency. As a result, we deliver fully indigenous solutions that strongly align with the nation’s vision of self-reliance and advanced domestic manufacturing.

Q: Which industry sectors or market segments are currently your primary focus for product offerings?

A: Currently, we primarily cater to the requirements of Indian Railways. At the same time, we are actively expanding our presence in the metro rail sector to address the rapidly evolving urban mobility ecosystem. Looking ahead, we also plan to enter the Indian defence segment, where we see significant opportunities for high-precision engineering and indigenous manufacturing solutions. Through this strategic diversification, we aim to strengthen our position across critical infrastructure and national capability sectors.

Q: What new technologies, products, or innovations are you planning to develop in this segment?

A: Currently, we have successfully developed nine relay contactors. However, the railway and metro ecosystem requires a much wider range of such components, running into hundreds of variants across different applications and specifications. Therefore, this marks only the beginning of our long-term product development journey.

Going forward, we plan to expand our portfolio by developing additional relay contactors and allied systems based on evolving industry requirements. In fact, that is precisely why we are participating here today. We want to engage closely with stakeholders in the metro rail sector, understand their operational and technical needs, and identify the products that still depend heavily on imports.

Our larger objective remains clear: to reduce import dependency and strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities under the ‘Make in India’ vision. Once we identify the critical products currently being sourced from overseas, we intend to develop and manufacture them at our facility in Kolkata with the highest standards of engineering precision and reliability.

Q: Do you have plans to expand into international markets and export your products globally?

A: Exporting our products is certainly part of our long-term growth strategy, and we intend to enter international markets in the near future. However, at this stage, our primary focus remains on strengthening our presence in the domestic market and addressing the growing requirements of India’s railway and metro infrastructure sectors. By consolidating our capabilities and expanding our product ecosystem locally, we aim to build a strong foundation for sustainable global expansion.
