Krishi Sanskriti is revolutionizing food transparency by empowering farmers and reassuring consumers through cutting-edge traceability solutions. An innovation of SaffronEdge Agro Private Limited, the platform is built on a simple yet powerful idea—cultivate trust from farm to fork. It ensures that the journey from nutrient-rich soil ends with residue-free, certified produce on the consumer’s plate.
At its core, Krishi Sanskriti champions sustainable agriculture. It tackles deep-rooted challenges such as land fragmentation, excessive chemical use, and market volatility. By encouraging community farming and offering expert agronomic support, the platform not only uplifts farmers but also guarantees quality and safety to end-users.
Through a suite of robust tools—including soil testing, leaf diagnostics, laboratory analyses, and QR code-enabled traceability—Krishi Sanskriti gives consumers unprecedented visibility into the origin and quality of their food. Every product tells a story, one of purity, transparency, and accountability.
This comprehensive model does more than connect fields to families—it builds unshakable trust with every bite.
At Startup Mahakumbh, in an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Amol Kalugade, Founder and CEO of SaffronEdge, delves into the transformative potential of Krishi Sanskriti. He discusses the platform’s flagship offerings, explains how traceability is reshaping consumer expectations, highlights the growing community of farmers engaged with the initiative, and emphasizes the tangible value the platform delivers to both producers and consumers.
Here are the most compelling insights from that conversation.
Q: Can you walk us through your agritech platform Krishi Sanskriti—its core offerings, the problem it aims to solve, and how it’s creating impact on the ground?
A: Krishi Sanskriti is a comprehensive farm-to-fork traceability ecosystem that redefines transparency in agriculture. It meticulously tracks the journey of every agricultural product—from seeding and harvesting to processing and final delivery.
Traditionally, farmers supply their produce to procurement agencies, which then pass it on to manufacturing units. In this process, the end consumer remains disconnected from the origin of the food. There’s no visibility into where the produce was grown, what kind of soil nurtured it, or the quantity of pesticides and fertilizers used.
This lack of transparency raises a critical question: Are we truly aware of the quality of what we consume? Every individual has the right to know whether their food is nutritious, responsibly produced, and safe.
That’s where Krishi Sanskriti steps in. By assigning a unique QR code to every product, Krishi Sanskriti bridges the gap between the farm and the consumer. A simple scan reveals a wealth of verified information—soil type, pesticide and fertilizer usage, processing methods, packaging details, and even the logistics trail leading up to the consumer’s hands.
In essence, Krishi Sanskriti delivers complete supply chain traceability, empowering consumers with the knowledge to make informed, healthy, and ethical choices.
Q: In your view, how does traceability add value for consumers, and what role does it play in building trust and transparency across the supply chain?
A: If you’ve noticed the alarming rise in cancer and diabetes cases in recent years, it’s time to look beyond lifestyle factors. The real culprit is often the food we consume.
This is precisely where value meets value addition in a consumer’s life. Today, shoppers are increasingly conscious of what they’re eating. Yet, confusion persists—especially when products are marketed as “organic.” Is the food truly organic, or merely labelled so? That lingering doubt sits heavily in the consumer’s mind.
Krishi Sanskriti eliminates that uncertainty. It empowers consumers to trace the full journey of their food—from source to shelf. Whether it’s honey, ghee, jaggery, or turmeric, the platform provides verified, product-specific insights. Want to know the curcumin content in your turmeric? You can. Wondering if your incense sticks are charcoal-free? You’ll know. Need assurance that your jaggery is residue-free? It’s all there—transparent, accessible, and trustworthy.
With this level of traceability, consumers no longer have to guess. They can make confident, informed decisions about what they consume—without hesitation, and with complete peace of mind.
Q: How many farmers or farmer communities have adopted your platform so far?
A: We are currently operational across key regions of Western and Northern Maharashtra. Our digital platform has already onboarded over 5,000 verified farmers through our dedicated farmer app. In addition, more than 50 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)—engaged in manufacturing and value-added processing—have partnered with us.
Our ecosystem connects directly with over 300 repeat customers who receive fresh produce straight from the farms. These early adopters have placed their trust in our model, validating our mission and reinforcing our credibility.
At present, we operate through our Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) platform and are actively scaling our reach across India. The momentum is strong—and we are just getting started.
Q: How does your platform create tangible value for farmers or producers?
A: Today, most farmers remain trapped in the clutches of middlemen. These intermediaries aggressively negotiate prices, leaving farmers with little to no return for their hard work. The result? Farmers lose both value and voice.
Krishi Sanskriti changes that equation. We eliminate the middlemen by connecting farmers directly with end consumers and food processing units. This direct access strengthens farmers’ bargaining power, enabling them to negotiate better prices and retain more value for their produce.
Most Indian farmers operate on small land holdings—typically less than five acres. On their own, their scale limits their leverage. But once they join Krishi Sanskriti, they become part of a larger crop-specific community.
Imagine this: an individual farmer with one acre of land is now part of a 2,000-member farmer network, all cultivating the same crop. Suddenly, he’s no longer negotiating as a lone voice—he’s backed by the collective strength of thousands. This community-driven model transforms the individual farmer’s position—from isolated and undervalued to empowered and influential. That is the true value addition Krishi Sanskriti delivers to India’s farmers.
