In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Dr. Anasuya Roy, Founder and CEO of Nanosafe Solutions Pvt. Ltd., offers a deep dive into how the company harnesses the power of micronutrient copper to develop its antimicrobial products. She discusses the health-related applications of copper-based technology, highlights the patents the company has secured, and reveals the next wave of innovations she plans to introduce. Q: Can you elaborate on how Nanosafe Solutions harnesses the potential of micronutrient copper in developing its antimicrobial products?

A: We have developed a groundbreaking antimicrobial technology based on active copper. This active copper technology serves as a versatile platform, applicable across a wide range of materials, including polymers, plastics, textiles, and technical textiles. Our solutions include both active copper-based padding and coating applications, designed specifically for use in technical textiles.

In addition, we offer masterbatches—polymer pellets that can be seamlessly integrated during moulding or yarn production, particularly in polyester. These masterbatches impart lifetime antimicrobial properties to the material, ensuring long-lasting protection.

Q: Can this copper-based technology be applied to other health-related solutions as well?

A: Yes, absolutely. This is a versatile platform technology with a wide range of applications. Currently, our focus spans several industries, including polymers, textiles, foam, plastics, automotive, and construction chemicals. The beauty of this technology lies in its flexibility—it can be applied across various sectors, in any form, and in any shape.

Q: How many patents have been granted for your innovations, and what are the next steps in your innovation journey beyond the breakthroughs you’ve already achieved?

A: We have filed four patents, with three already granted.

Looking ahead, we’re expanding beyond antimicrobial technology. We’re developing a fortification technology designed to enrich water with essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and iron.

Additionally, we’re working on an innovative solution for odour control. Since odours are primarily caused by certain strains of bacteria, our technology specifically targets and neutralizes these strains, effectively eliminating the odour without compromising the product.

To enhance this, we’re also integrating elements that capture volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the environment. This makes our technology a comprehensive, holistic solution for odour control.

Q: How do you envision the future of your company over the next 5 to 10 years?

A: We are a material science company, and no company in this field has yet reached unicorn status. Over the next five years, we aim to scale rapidly, develop new technologies, and establish a strong presence in import substitution. Our goal is to build a robust business model and achieve a significant valuation, driven by a steady stream of orders.
