NewAgeWear, an e-commerce company established in 2023, has rapidly evolved into a comprehensive platform. It specializes in electronics, the latest gadgets, and more—all at unbeatable prices. As a D2C brand focused on electronic products, NewAgeWear has recently expanded its portfolio. Venturing into the production and distribution of nano drones, the platform offers these products at affordable prices.
In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at IIT Delhi, Hitesh Kalwani, Founder, NewAgeWear, highlights the startup’s latest move. He highlights how his startup is selling nano drones via their e-commerce platform but also transitioning to domestic production. Furthermore, he discusses the wide-ranging applications of these drones. Additionally, he emphasizes the immense market opportunities for nano drones across various sectors in India. Below are the key insights from his interview.
Q: Can you provide insights into the design of your nano drones and specify the sectors or industries they serve?
A: We launched NewAgeWear just 10 months ago, and we’ve already begun selling nano drones through our platform. While none of us come from a technical background, we have a clear understanding of the growing demand for these drones in India. Co-founded by three partners from diverse regions—one from Hyderabad, one from Gujarat, and myself, from Mumbai—NewAgeWear has developed an e-commerce platform focused on specialized electronic products.
We saw a gap in the market. While toy cars remain popular with young children, the shift towards more adventurous, tech-driven experiences is happening rapidly. That’s where nano drones come in. We’ve introduced nano drones, enabling children to fly them easily and freely and have a thrilling experience. Not only are they affordable, but they also allow users to record their movements, adding an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.
Q: Could you explain your process for sourcing drones from vendors, and are you able to share which vendors you typically collaborate with?
A: Our vendors are primarily based in Delhi and Mumbai. However, instead of continuing to source from them, we’ve shifted our focus to manufacturing drones domestically. Despite being in business for only 10 months, we’ve already generated over Rs. 20 lakhs in revenue and begun turning a profit. With this positive cash flow, we’re launching a new R&D department, where our goal is to develop nano drones capable of carrying a 2 kg payload for the logistics sector.
Q: How you plan to scale up this project?
A: We launched this project just a month ago when a passionate individual approached us, eager to share his work on nano drone prototypes. After reviewing his designs, we realized our visions aligned perfectly. Together, we decided to create India’s first nano drone capable of carrying a 2 kg payload. This innovation will significantly benefit the Indian logistics sector.
Q: What are your perspectives on the market opportunities for these drones in India, and which sectors do you see driving the most demand?
A: Major logistics companies like Delhivery, Amazon, and other e-commerce giants are already exploring the potential of this sector. In the next five years, it’s set to experience explosive growth. Nano drones won’t be limited to logistics alone—they have vast applications across different industries, such as geo-mapping and more. These drones will soon become integral to various sectors. Seeing this immense potential, we developed our vision and built a dedicated team around it. While our current focus is on logistics, we plan to gradually expand into other sectors where these specialized drones can make a significant impact.
