In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Aniket Nanajkar, CEO of TEPL, delves into the X-ray inspection system’s advanced capabilities and its application across diverse materials. Furthermore, he outlines TEPL’s unique differentiators, provides insights into their growing customer base, discusses market size and product pricing, and shares details about the company’s current revenue and ambitious growth strategy. Below are the key highlights from this engaging conversation.
Q: Could you elaborate on the X-ray inspection system and its effectiveness in scanning various types of materials?
A: Technofour Electronics, a company with 52 years of expertise, specializes in inspection machinery. We offer a range of advanced systems, including industrial metal detectors, dynamic checkweighers, and X-ray inspection systems. Specifically, our food X-ray systems provide a comprehensive solution for detecting all forms of foreign contamination in packaged products. This includes materials like glass, ceramic, and metal. Our X-ray inspection systems ensure that every product is thoroughly inspected before reaching consumers, guaranteeing it is free from harmful contaminants such as metal, stone, glass, and ceramic. This foolproof technology provides peace of mind, ensuring product safety at every stage before it enters the consumer’s hands.
Q: What are the key differentiators that set your company apart from competitors?
A: We are currently the leading manufacturer in our product category and the oldest in India. As a technology-driven innovation company, we also have consistently pioneered advancements in our field. In 1982, Technofour introduced India’s first metal detector. In 1998, we launched the country’s first checkweigher, followed by India’s first X-ray system in 2018. This legacy of technical excellence also sets us apart. In essence, our goal is to maintain this leadership and expand into new markets, staying ahead of the curve for years to come.
Our core objective is to educate our customers, recognizing that every business, regardless of size, needs our solutions. We are committed to delivering cutting-edge inspection machinery, as this is our expertise and our passion. Moving forward, we will also ontinue to innovate and introduce more products in this field, reinforcing our position as industry leaders.
Q: What is the level of effectiveness of analysis provided by this X-ray system, and what is the minimum detection capability it offers?
A: Our system is 100% efficient, capable of detecting even the smallest contaminants. It can reliably identify metal particles as small as 0.5 mm in any product. If the metal particle exceeds 1 mm, the system detects it with absolute certainty, every time. The same level of accuracy applies to stone and glass detection.
Each X-ray system’s detectability is determined by its aperture size and the product it inspects. Based on this, the minimum detectability varies. Specifically, our system can detect metal particles as small as 0.5 mm, glass, ceramic, and stone particles from 1 mm.
Q: Can your system detect wood powder mixed with other spice powders or any similar contaminants in food products?
A: The X-ray operates on the principle of density. It detects foreign contaminants by identifying objects with a density greater than that of the original product. If the contaminant’s density exceeds that of the product, the X-ray system will identify it.
Q: Who are your key customers or industry leaders currently using your products?
A: Our major customers in the food industry include Britannia, Hammer, and Hocco. Additionally, Chitale Bandhu, a premium mithai brand from Pune, is also one of our valued clients. They currently utilize over 12 X-ray machines in their factory.
Q: What is the size of the food inspection market, and how is it evolving?
A: The food industry, regardless of size, requires inspection systems. The type of system installed depends on the manufacturer’s needs. This sector also represents a vast market. For our metal detectors, we sell over 1,500 units annually. With 40 years of experience in this business, we have built a strong presence in the industry.
Q: What is the price range of the X-ray machine, and what is its capacity?
A: The basic range for our X-ray inspection system starts at Rs. 30 lakhs. It is capable of detecting all materials within the current capacity available in India. With its advanced features, the system also offers exceptionally high detection capability.
Q: What is your current revenue size, and what are your growth targets for the next five years?
A: Currently, our company stands at a revenue of Rs. 150 crores. With a clear vision for growth and expansion, we are strategically working towards reaching Rs. 500 crores within the next five years.
