In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World during the 5th AeroDef India Manufacturing Exhibition & Conference, Sanjeev Verma, Regional Manager of UWT Level Control India Pvt. Ltd., shared compelling insights into the company’s pioneering advancements in autonomous level measurement. He discussed the immense potential of these innovations in the Indian market, detailed ongoing enhancements to their existing product line, and emphasized what sets the UWT brand apart in a competitive landscape.

Here are the key takeaways from this insightful exchange.

Q: Can you elaborate on the technologies and innovations developed by UWT that enable autonomous level measurement solutions?

A: UWT, a renowned German company, specializes in advanced level measurement solutions for a wide range of materials. Whether you’re working with liquids, solids, semi-solids, or challenging bulk materials, UWT offers a precise and reliable solution for every application.

Our portfolio includes cutting-edge radar level transmitters, which have largely replaced older ultrasonic technologies. While ultrasonic systems once dominated the field, they face significant limitations in environments with dust, vapors, or temperature fluctuations. In contrast, radar technology—based on electromagnetic wave propagation—delivers accurate results in virtually any condition, including vacuum or harsh industrial settings.

Radar level transmitters perform exceptionally well across both solid and liquid applications, making them the preferred choice in modern process industries. For instance, cement manufacturing, known for its extreme operating environments, represents one of the most demanding use cases. Yet, our radar systems have consistently delivered outstanding performance and reliability.

Today, UWT radars are deployed in most major cement plants across the region. Our growing footprint and strong customer satisfaction testify to the effectiveness and durability of our level measurement solutions in even the most challenging scenarios.

Q: How do you view the transition from manual to automated level measurement in Indian industries, and what key opportunities do you foresee emerging in this space?

A: The level measurement industry is undergoing a major transformation, and automation is driving this rapid evolution. Traditionally, plant operators relied on manual methods like tape or rope to measure levels—often climbing to the top of silos or tanks. Today, that approach is not only outdated but also inefficient and unsafe.

Now, operators demand real-time level monitoring directly from the control room, whether it’s a cement silo, chemical tank, or liquid storage unit. This shift has created a surge in demand for intelligent and automated solutions—precisely where UWT’s radar level transmitters excel.

Our radar transmitters offer a 4–20 mA output along with HART protocol, enabling seamless integration with control systems. This not only provides continuous level monitoring but also allows for automated motor control, drive protection, and overflow prevention—all from a centralized interface.

In addition to radar systems, we offer a comprehensive range of switches, including the advanced RF Admittance Level Switch. While traditional capacitance switches served basic functions in solid applications, they often failed in sticky or cling-prone environments. The RF admittance switch overcomes these challenges.

It performs reliably even when materials accumulate on the probe. Unlike capacitance switches, which can misread a stuck probe as a full tank, the RF admittance switch intelligently nullifies the effect of buildup, ensuring accurate switching even with 40–50 mm of material deposition. Moreover, it supports extended sensing lengths, making it ideal for deep or complex installations.

With such innovations, UWT not only enhances safety and accuracy but also empowers industries to achieve greater efficiency and control in level measurement.

Q: What new innovations are you planning to introduce to enhance or expand your existing product portfolio?

A: We’ve introduced advanced liquid level switching technologies, marking a significant upgrade in our monitoring capabilities. Specifically, we’ve developed new tuning mechanisms for switches, enabling precise performance across a wide range of liquid types. These enhancements reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation and product evolution.

Q: As a global player in the level measurement domain, how does UWT differentiate itself from competitors in terms of technology, service, or market approach?

A: Before UWT entered the market, several brands offered level measuring instruments. However, since our arrival nearly a decade ago, we have firmly established our position through consistent performance and reliability.

Today, UWT is recognized across major industries as a trusted name—first and foremost, for its reliability. Our track record speaks for itself: for every 100 units we supply, we see just one complaint. That’s the level of excellence we’ve achieved.

Backed by this confidence in our engineering and quality, we proudly offer an industry-leading 6-year warranty—something rare in our segment. But this warranty isn’t just a marketing claim; it reflects our unwavering belief in the durability and performance of our products.

Over time, we have steadily expanded our presence across all key sectors. Today, UWT is not only present everywhere but also delivers strong competition to established players in autonomous level measurement. Simply put, UWT has become a respected and recognized name in the industry.
