In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Kunal Patel, Director of Imon Technologies, delves into the concept of automatic barrier technologies. Furthermore, he discusses the regions in India where the company has implemented these technologies and shares insights on market opportunities and the current scale of the business. Here are the key takeaways from his interview.
Q: Can you explain the concept of automatic barrier technologies and how they contribute to enhancing traffic control and management?
A: We specialize exclusively in automatic barrier technologies, offering a range of barriers spanning four to eight meters. A key highlight of our work is our focus on advanced brushless technology. Roger Technology, a leading manufacturer from Italy, produces all our products, ensuring superior quality. In fact, we are the pioneers in introducing brushless technology to the Indian market.
Currently, we are launching the Wave 4 series—our economy line designed specifically for toll barriers and parking solutions. This series stands out as the fastest in the industry. In addition to barriers, we also excel in gate automation, providing sliding and swing gates capable of handling loads from 500 kg to 2,200 kg.
Q: Has this technology been implemented in India, and if so, in which states or regions?
A: We have operated in India for the past 30 years as a family business, with me representing the second generation of leadership. For nearly seven years, we have collaborated closely with Roger Technology. Currently, we serve clients across the entire country, supported by our established channel network. Our barrier technologies have been successfully implemented in states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Additionally, we are actively seeking partners in North India to expand our reach.
Q: What sets your technology apart from other barrier systems currently available in the market?
A: In a single word, I would describe it as “brushless.” Specifically, we specialize in brushless direct current (BLDC) technology, where we proudly stand as pioneers. Furthermore, we hold a patented technology that underscores our leadership in this field.
Q: Do you have any plans to manufacture these products in India?
A: At present, we hold a global patent that mandates all product manufacturing occurs exclusively in Italy. Consequently, we cannot produce these items outside of Italy. This requirement is non-negotiable.
Q: What do you see as the market potential for these barrier products in India?
A: The market opportunity is vast, as we stand on the brink of the automation era. Automation has become essential in various sectors, including traffic management, transportation, and parking. As we look to the future, the demand for automation will only increase. Notably, this type of automation minimizes the need for human intervention. Users can also easily operate these systems remotely or integrate them with their home automation setups.
Q: Can you elaborate on the key technologies powering these automation systems?
A: We develop digital controllers for our barrier automation technologies, manufacturing them in-house. These controllers seamlessly integrate with our readers. Additionally, each controller features built-in radio receivers, allowing for remote operation.
Q: What authentication processes are in place to grant access through these barriers?
A: To grant access through our barrier systems, we integrate various access control technologies, including FASTags, RFIDs, and biometrics. These solutions can be effectively implemented in both private residences and commercial properties.
Q: Can you share the current scale of your business and your vision for its growth over the next five to ten years?
A: We are currently collaborating with our channel partners in the home automation industry. Additionally, we engage with government consultants and architects on various commercial and industrial projects. Our business has reached a size of approximately Rs. 1,000 crores. Looking ahead, our long-term vision is to establish ourselves as pioneers and leaders in barrier technologies throughout India.
