LGK Agrotech champions a sustainable and organic future by manufacturing products that foster harmony between agriculture and nature. From the outset, the company has operated on a core belief: the manufacturing process profoundly influences human health, environmental resilience, and community well-being.
Driven by a deep respect for the soil, an unwavering commitment to biodiversity, and a steadfast dedication to sustainability, LGK Agrotech does more than produce food and paint. It leads a movement that regenerates the land and empowers the communities that rely on it. Its foray into organic paint manufacturing is not just a business venture—it is a pledge to honor the earth, uphold the sanctity of every harvest, and leave a legacy of abundance.
In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Dr. S.R. Banerjee, Director of LGK Agrotech, delves into the company’s innovative approach to organic paint. He explains the technology behind transforming cow dung into eco-friendly paint, highlights the business volume, underscores the health benefits of these products, and sheds light on the company’s growing distribution network. Here are the key takeaways from his insightful discussion.
Q: What types of products does LGK Agrotech manufacture, and how do they cater to the needs of the agricultural sector?
A: Our industry is rooted in agriculture. Why? Because we manufacture paint from cow dung.
This eco-friendly, organic paint is free from the heavy metals found in conventional paints—metals that pose serious health risks. Traditional paints expose not just painters but also end users, especially families, to harmful toxins. Young children, for instance, often touch painted walls, transferring these toxic particles to their hands and, inevitably, their mouths. This exposure can lead to stunted growth and other serious health issues.
We set out to create a safer alternative—one that protects not just consumers but also the painters who work with these products every day. Our journey involved extensive research, field surveys, and specialized training before we perfected the process of transforming cow dung into high-quality paint.
However, our biggest challenge remains the lack of awareness. Many people in India are still unaware of the health hazards posed by conventional paints. Changing this mindset takes time. We are steadily working to educate consumers through targeted marketing and strategic outreach, ensuring that more people understand the benefits of switching to a safer, sustainable alternative.
Q: What innovative technology has LGK Agrotech developed to manufacture organic paint from cow dung?
A: I acquired this innovative technology from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), which has long been dedicated to promoting sustainable and indigenous industries.
Our product, Khadi Prakritik Paint, remains deeply rooted in its origins. The name itself embodies its core values—purely organic, natural, and environmentally friendly. Free from harmful chemicals, it provides a healthier alternative to conventional paints.
We are committed to expanding its reach, ensuring it gains widespread recognition. Our vision extends beyond India, as we aim to introduce this eco-friendly solution to global markets. By prioritizing both consumer safety and painter well-being, we offer a sustainable, toxin-free future.
Q: What is your current volume of usage and supply? How large is your business in terms of scale and market presence?
A: Currently, we produce approximately 30,000 to 40,000 liters of paint per month. However, we are steadily scaling up to expand our capacity significantly. Growth, however, depends on increasing awareness—without it, expansion remains challenging.
We began our journey in Bengal and have gradually expanded into Odisha and Assam. Our next target is the entire Northeast region. From there, we aim to establish a nationwide presence, extend into Bhutan, and eventually reach broader international markets.
Q: What health benefits does your organic paint offer to professional painters in the industry?
A: Painters who work with conventional paints face serious health risks. Prolonged exposure to toxic chemicals leads to skin diseases, chronic hair loss, and respiratory problems. Every time they open a paint bucket, they unknowingly inhale heavy metals that accumulate in their lungs, causing long-term damage. Over time, their skin becomes rough and irritated, a visible sign of the hazardous materials they handle daily.
Our organic paint eliminates these risks. Free from harmful toxins, it offers painters a safer alternative that protects their health without compromising quality. Unlike conventional paints, which pose continuous threats to their well-being, our product ensures they can work without fear of exposure to toxic substances.
Beyond providing a safe working environment, we also prioritize their long-term welfare. We offer health insurance, giving painters financial security and access to medical care. This dual approach—safer materials and health coverage—ensures their well-being and elevates industry standards.
Q: How extensive is your current network? How many painters are enrolled with you, and how is your distribution system operating?
A: At present, we have a strong network of around 200 dealers and 2,000 to 3,000 painters. However, we are focused on significant expansion. Our goal is to grow our dealer base to 1,000 and bring nearly 100,000 painters into our ecosystem. Through targeted outreach, strategic partnerships, and increased awareness, we are actively working to achieve this milestone. We are confident that with our commitment to sustainability and innovation, we will successfully scale our operations and establish a stronger presence in the market.
