Punchline Energy Pvt. Ltd., an innovative GreenTech company, develops tailored solutions including motor controllers for the EV sector. Recently, the company introduced a cloud-based motor controller system. This system not only tracks the vehicle but also remotely locks it in case of emergencies.
During an exclusive interaction with The Interview World, Sanjay Dhawan, the Founder and Managing Director of Punchline Energy Pvt. Ltd. discussed the company’s innovations. He highlighted how these innovations protect the EV fleet instantly and remotely. Additionally, he explained the technology behind motor control, discussed market opportunities and end users, and projected market size. Here are the key insights from his interview.
Q: How has Punchline Energy contributed to innovation within its field?
A: At the core of our operations lies the production of controllers, pivotal devices capable of effectively managing motors. These controllers serve as the linchpin in our integration efforts, seamlessly connecting with both display systems and an array of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This cohesive integration empowers users with versatile control options tailored to their specific needs, particularly in scenarios like fleet management.
Picture a bustling delivery ecosystem, where a Swiggy delivery arrives at their destination with an order in tow. Parking their bike, they need a swift and secure way to immobilize it while they complete their delivery. Our solution steps in seamlessly: a simple press of a button locks the bike securely, ensuring peace of mind for the delivery operator and efficient management for the fleet owner.
In another instance, a fleet manager confronts the challenge of unpaid dues from some drivers. With our system, they wield a powerful tool at their fingertips. Activating a lock remotely, they effectively immobilize the vehicle, halting any unauthorized use until payment is settled. This proactive approach not only ensures financial integrity but also streamlines fleet operations by eliminating potential disruptions.
Beyond these scenarios, our system boasts a comprehensive suite of functionalities. From vehicle locking to alarm triggering, from sending instant notifications to performing remote actions, our platform equips fleet managers with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of modern transportation logistics seamlessly. With our solution, they can maintain control, enhance security, and optimize efficiency, all with unparalleled ease and effectiveness.
Q: How is the entire process of motor control managed?
A: Our system operates seamlessly through cloud management, a sophisticated framework that enables efficient control and monitoring. Central to its functionality is the controller, which dynamically interacts with the motor by modulating currents to achieve specific outcomes, such as inducing jamming. This process entails sending unique currents tailored to the motor’s requirements. Additionally, we establish a vital link between the controller and the cloud, facilitated by a dedicated application designed for intuitive user interaction. Within our technological ecosystem, all applications are intricately woven into the fabric of the Internet of Things (IoT), ensuring cohesive and interconnected functionality.
Moreover, our system integrates the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), augmenting its capabilities for precise navigation and location-based services. While certain components are procured from China, such as passive-level components, the bulk of our system’s development and customization occurs in-house. Notably, our controller exemplifies this approach, where only the microcontroller unit (MCU) is sourced externally. However, programming, software development, and app design are exclusively our domains, resulting in a tightly integrated and tailored solution.
Q: What factors contribute most significantly to the potential market opportunity for this product?
A: Here’s a more detailed explanation of my perspective: In today’s market landscape, we’re witnessing a dual narrative unfold. On one hand, companies like Swiggy have paved the way for innovative business models in the food delivery sector. On the other hand, we’re observing a trend where individuals, who potentially own a fleet of e-rickshaws, are capitalizing on the burgeoning demand for transportation services. These individuals are now leasing out their e-rickshaws daily, serving as fleet aggregators in their own right.
Looking ahead, I foresee a fascinating evolution within this space. Imagine a scenario where bicycles become the next frontier in food delivery. With a modest capital investment of a few lakhs, entrepreneurs could procure cycles for this purpose, each costing around Rs. 25,000. By allocating resources towards acquiring 10 cycles, amounting to approximately two and a half lakhs, they could establish a formidable presence in the market.
While the operational costs of maintaining a cycle might initially seem minimal, hovering around 30-40 rupees per day, I anticipate that businesses could comfortably absorb higher daily expenses, potentially exceeding 100 rupees. This projection hints at the promising returns awaiting those who venture into this domain.
Q: How do you identify the primary end users for these products?
A: Currently, I’m assisting several individuals who have imported vehicle fleets from China, but they’re encountering issues with their fleets. In China, it’s common for suppliers to bundle everything together, causing complications for fleet operators here. Fortunately, we’re stepping in to address this by providing motor controllers to protect their vehicles. Our partner in Gujarat manufactures these controllers, ensuring that our solution remains entirely Indian-made. We’re committed to supporting EV owners, fleet operators, and e-commerce delivery personnel with our end-to-end Indian solution. The potential applications of this motor controller are extensive.
Q: How large is the market potential for the envisioned products?
A: I believe this market has immense potential. Currently, it appears underdeveloped. I’ve noticed individuals involved in importing goods from China facing challenges in protecting their vehicles. Some have brought in large numbers of low-speed vehicles, like 200, 300, or even 500 cycles, and struggle to safeguard them effectively. Our products cater to various electric vehicles, offering owners complete control and the ability to track their vehicles in real time using GPS. Additionally, remote locking capabilities provide added security. This demonstrates the significant market opportunity our product addresses in enhancing vehicle protection.
