Headquartered in Crissier, Switzerland, Sylvac SA stands as a global pioneer in high-precision digital metrology instruments. With a legacy rooted in Swiss craftsmanship, the company fuses traditional engineering excellence with state-of-the-art technology. Its precision tools deliver exceptional accuracy—down to 0.1 microns, a level of precision 7,000 times finer than the width of a human hair.
Sylvac’s product portfolio spans an impressive range, including digital hand tools, optical measurement systems, height gauges, and advanced software solutions. Demonstrating its forward-thinking approach, Sylvac was the first in the industry to integrate Bluetooth connectivity into its instruments, enabling effortless, wireless data transfer. Its proprietary software suite—Sylcom, Vmux, and Sylvac Anywhere—further elevates the user experience, offering everything from real-time data acquisition and virtual multiplexing to mobile monitoring on the go.
Serving diverse and demanding sectors such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical devices, and watchmaking, Sylvac’s solutions have become indispensable across the globe. The company exports over 85% of its products to more than 50 countries, with a strong presence in key markets like India, China, Germany, and the United States. In India, Sylvac operates through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sylvac Metrology (India) Pvt. Ltd., based in Pune, where it provides robust distribution, customer engagement, and responsive after-sales support.
With an unrelenting focus on quality, precision, and sustainability, Sylvac continues to raise the bar for excellence in precision measurement technologies.
At the Delhi Machine Tool Expo 2025, The Interview World caught up with Jurg Lendi, Senior Technical Sales Advisor at Sylvac. In an insightful exchange, Lendi spotlighted the company’s flagship technologies, detailed their wide-ranging industrial applications, and revealed how Bluetooth-enabled tools deliver a decisive edge. He also offered a rare look into Sylvac’s global operations and enduring market leadership.
Here are the key takeaways from this engaging conversation.
Q: Could you elaborate on the key precision measurement technologies that Sylvac offers?
A: Sylvac is a proud Swiss, family-owned company, deeply rooted in precision engineering. We specialize in high-precision hand tools that leverage advanced Bluetooth connectivity.
Today, more and more customers demand reliable traceability in their measurement processes. Our Bluetooth-enabled tools directly transmit measurement data, eliminating the need for manual recording. This not only enhances accuracy but also significantly reduces the risk of human error.
As a result, users benefit from faster workflows, improved data integrity, and substantial cost savings. Ultimately, this innovation simplifies operations while meeting the increasing demand for digital traceability and efficiency.
Q: Which industries primarily rely on Sylvac’s precision tools and machines?
A: Industries across the spectrum—aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and beyond—rely on our precision tools. Virtually all the sectors use these tools. From wiring systems to naval applications, our instruments play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, reliability, and performance at every level.
Q: What competitive advantages do Sylvac’s precision tools offer to users?
A: For our customers, it all comes down to traceability and quality assurance. When a product is manufactured, it must be verified to ensure it meets the required specifications. Our tools play a vital role in this process. They help confirm that every component produced aligns precisely with design tolerances. In essence, we provide the instruments that make quality control and traceability not only possible but seamless.
Q: How extensive is Sylvac’s portfolio of precision tools, and how are these solutions tailored to meet the diverse requirements of different industries?
A: We offer a comprehensive range of precision tools, starting with essentials like callipers, micrometres, and dial indicators. But that’s just the beginning. Our catalogue includes over 200 to 300 distinct instruments, each designed to meet specific measurement needs. In short, our product portfolio is not just wide—it’s exceptionally diverse and built to serve a broad spectrum of applications.
Q: Do all Sylvac tools come equipped with Bluetooth connectivity?
A: Not all of our instruments come with Bluetooth connectivity—and that’s intentional. We also offer models without Bluetooth to meet specific needs and budget considerations. In many cases, wireless features simply aren’t necessary.
At the same time, our instruments are engineered for tough workshop environments. They’re highly resistant to oil and water—robust enough to function even in direct exposure. This durability is one of our key strengths.
That said, the industry trend is shifting. More and more customers are moving toward wireless solutions. They want integrated data collection, centralized control systems, and real-time monitoring. With one server, a single operator can now oversee multiple production lines—enhancing efficiency, traceability, and quality control across the entire factory floor.
Q: In which global markets does Sylvac currently operate, and where do you see the most growth potential?
A: At Sylvac, we export over 80% of our total production, underscoring our strong global footprint. Our key markets include the United States, Germany, and France, which have consistently driven demand for our precision tools.
Interestingly, India has rapidly emerged as a significant market, now ranking sixth globally among our top destinations. The growth trajectory here is remarkable, and we view India as a market with immense potential. Despite geopolitical challenges—such as those involving Russia—we’ve remained largely independent and resilient in our operations.
To support our growing presence in India, we’ve established a dedicated branch office in Pune, staffed by a six-member team. We also work closely with a local distributor agent, creating a balanced model—over 50% of our sales come through distribution, while the rest are managed via direct channels.
