In an exclusive interaction with The Interview World, Sonia Behl Visha Chaudhary, CMD, and Vishal Chaudhary, CEO of Solars4U, shed light on the company’s expansive offerings in the solar domain. They provide valuable insights into the dependability of solar power plant installations, outline their alignment with national missions, and discuss how technological innovation drives their operations. Furthermore, they reveal strategic plans for growth, global outreach, and the adoption of next-generation solar technologies.

Here are the key insights from their compelling conversation.

Q: Your company offers a wide range of services, from EPC to BOT and PPAs. How do you decide which model best suits a client’s needs?

A: EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) refers to delivering a fully customized solar energy solution tailored to meet a customer’s specific requirements. The customer may be a direct consumer of electricity or someone using solar-generated energy either for personal consumption or for commercial sale to a government or private entity. When the customer fully finances the capital expenditure (CAPEX) of the solar plant—either through personal funds or with support from a financial institution—the project falls under the pure EPC category. In this case, the customer owns the plant and assumes full responsibility for its operation and performance.

On the other hand, some customers prefer not to invest in the plant infrastructure but choose instead to pay only for the electricity it generates. These users fall under the OPEX model, where the payment is made for energy consumed, typically through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Within the OPEX model, two common structures exist. In the first, the agreement allows the project owner or investor—who bears the initial cost of the installation—to retain asset ownership throughout the contract period, with the plant returning to them after the agreement expires. In the second structure, the end user commits to paying for the electricity over a fixed period under predefined terms, after which ownership of the plant is transferred to them.

Both EPC and OPEX models offer distinct advantages depending on a customer’s financial strategy, operational preferences, and long-term energy goals. While EPC provides immediate ownership and control, OPEX offers a lower upfront commitment and a more service-oriented approach to solar adoption.

Q: With increasing focus on quality and longevity, how does Solars4U ensure reliability in its installations—particularly with the 25-year module warranties and lifetime support?

A: We operate on a cost-centric model, focusing first on accurately estimating project costs based on the specific site’s requirements—ranging from safety and operations to long-term maintenance. Only after this detailed evaluation do we align our pricing with prevailing market rates. This meticulous approach ensures that every proposal reflects the true value of our offering. While our pricing may be marginally higher, customers consistently recognize the superior value we deliver and respond with genuine appreciation.

Our commitment to long-term performance extends to procurement as well. We place a strong emphasis on structured Purchase Orders with clearly defined terms. Though this approach may slightly elevate upfront costs, it provides a critical safeguard for our clients, ensuring sustained reliability and peace of mind throughout the warranty period.

Equally important is the strength of our team. Every sales representative at Solars4U has spent a minimum of two to three years immersed in the core functions of design, procurement, and construction—followed by at least six months of hands-on experience in operations and maintenance. This deep-rooted exposure equips them with practical market insight and enables them to engage with customers confidently and transparently. As a result, we ensure every project is executed exactly as promised.

Together, these practices form the foundation of our enduring credibility. They affirm not only that we were there when solar adoption began, but that we continue to stand by our clients today—and will remain a trusted partner for the future.

Q: Your tagline, “SUN FOR ALL 365 DAYS,” is quite powerful. How does this vision translate into action, especially in underserved or rural areas?

A: “SUN FOR ALL 365 DAYS” represents our vision to develop sustainable, distributed generation units designed for year-round self-consumption across residential, industrial, and small-grid applications. These systems integrate advanced Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS) to ensure uninterrupted power supply, while we commit to delivering a minimum of 99.99% system uptime—both in installation and ongoing service.

To bring this vision to life on the ground, we collaborate closely with key stakeholders. Their active involvement is vital in building resilient, future-ready green energy infrastructure that meets today’s demands while securing tomorrow’s sustainability.

Q: How is Solars4U aligning its efforts with national initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Mission and India’s broader renewable energy goals?

A: We remain highly optimistic about the opportunities unlocked by the Government of India’s latest mission. This initiative has sparked a surge in market activity and, over time, will bring much-needed clarity to the sector by streamlining subsidies under a single, unified framework. Furthermore, the automatic issuance of No Objection Certificates for systems up to 10 kWp, along with an online loan facility offering interest rates as low as 6.5%—without requiring income documentation for projects under ₹2 lakh—will significantly accelerate adoption.

In the first year of the scheme, awareness among local DISCOMs and banks has notably improved. Looking ahead, we anticipate a similar growth trajectory in the next 6 to 18 months, akin to the rapid expansion seen in India’s automobile sector between 2001 and 2004. In fact, the residential solar segment is poised to surpass even those historic benchmarks.

Driven by this momentum, we have already launched a prototype in select cities to deliver a seamless solution for the residential market. Encouragingly, the early results have exceeded expectations. Based on this success, we are now preparing to scale the model across new territories in the near future.

Q: What role does innovation and technology play in your engineering, site assessment, and installation processes?

A: Our solution significantly cuts down job time and guarantees accurate data collection during site assessments. When it comes to installation, it reduces both time and cost while substantially improving quality. We have implemented numerous innovations and already observed promising results. However, we prefer to share detailed claims once we reach key milestones.

Looking ahead, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) will play a crucial role in driving our growth and expanding our market presence.

Q: What are Solars4U’s future plans in terms of geographical expansion, strategic partnerships, or new solar technologies?

A: We are driven by ambition for organic and sustainable growth. Our goal is not to become the biggest but to be the best—and above all, dependable. Therefore, we prioritize quality over quantity. Even today, in the cities where we operate, we command 80% of the premium market.

Regarding strategic partnerships, we are not currently seeking manufacturers. Instead, we are aligning with the right consultants who share our vision and want to collaborate on a strong platform. In the realm of new solar technologies, we believe delivering optimal Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) will be pivotal for the industry’s future.

While we remain grounded in business fundamentals, our primary focus is on providing sustainable solutions to consumers and investors alike. We are committed to charting a path of organic growth for all stakeholders—and we have consistently delivered on this promise with integrity and grace.
