A tragic collision occurred on Wednesday night when a PSA Airlines flight, operating as American Airlines 5432, collided with a US Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The Bombardier CRJ700, en route from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. The Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, with three soldiers aboard, was on a training flight from Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

The FAA confirmed the incident occurred around 9:00 PM local time (02:00 GMT), and authorities are investigating in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board. Emergency responders swiftly engaged, recovering at least 18 bodies from the Potomac River where the aircrafts crashed. The FAA grounded all flights at the airport.

American Airlines expressed deep sorrow, offering support to affected families and cooperating with the investigation. President Trump, briefed on the accident, extended his condolences and praised the first responders’ efforts.
