In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Tarun Bhalla, Founder and CEO of Avishkaar, discusses how his organization is driving innovation in education. He highlights the platform’s tailored learning approach, emphasizes the growing mindset shift toward innovation among students, and shares valuable insights into market trends and success stories. Below are the key takeaways from his interview.
Q: Can you explain Avishkaar’s role in the education sector, specifically how it is driving innovation in learning, and what sets its approach apart from other educational technologies?
A: Avishkaar’s primary mission is to cultivate a global generation of innovators. We believe that the earlier we engage children and empower them to innovate, the more enduring and impactful the innovation process will be.
Q: What age group of students is Avishkaar targeting with this learning approach, and how is it tailored to their developmental needs?
A: Our learning programs for schools begin as early as grade 1. In the non-school market, we offer products for children aged 5 and above. The product range serves children from 5 to 15 years old in the non-school segment, while for schools, we provide solutions tailored for students from kindergarten through grade 12.
Q: How have you observed a shift in students’ mindsets toward innovation-focused learning, and what impact has it had on their overall approach to education?
A: The change is both noticeable and highly significant, driven by the broader transformation of society. Today’s world is filled with OTT platforms, smartphones, sensor-based technology, and countless other innovations children encounter outside the classroom. However, within the classroom, they still see the traditional setup of a teacher, a blackboard or whiteboard, and chalk.
This creates a fundamental disconnect between the technologically advanced world outside and the outdated learning environment inside the classroom. Children are ready to embrace innovation and thrive in a technology-driven world. The real challenge lies in whether teachers, schools, and parents can rise to the occasion and provide the right stimulation and opportunities to nurture their potential.
Q: How many schools have partnered with your platform so far, and what has been the response from educators and institutions?
A: Our platform is utilized by nearly 5,000 schools, where they operate AI, robotics, and coding labs using our products. Additionally, over the past year, more than 200,000 students have visited our website to write programs, build robots, and engage in similar activities.
Q: Can you share any success stories from your program? Have students who have gone through your learning or innovation process developed notable innovations, and if so, what are some examples?
A: Over the years, we have documented nearly 15,000 innovators who have developed various innovations through our platform. Many of these students utilize their project work in our programs to apply for colleges abroad, successfully showcasing their accomplishments.
Numerous students have gained admission by presenting the projects they completed while engaging with Avishkaar. A standout example is Arjun Minocha, one of our students who received recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Chai Pe Charcha event. Arjun used five of our kits to create groundbreaking innovations, filed multiple patents, and is achieving remarkable success.
Our impact spans from high-profile recognition by the Prime Minister to the foundational achievements of students gaining university admissions based on their projects with us.
