In an exclusive interview with The Interview World, Venkatesan R.A., Chief Operating Officer of K.R. Trans Energy Pvt. Ltd., delves into the innovative LPG conversion system. He highlights its cutting-edge features, operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and robust safety measures. Additionally, he sheds light on the cost-saving advantages for users. Here are the key insights from his compelling discussion.

Q: Could you provide insights into the innovative fuel conversion system your company has developed for scooters, including its unique features, benefits, and impact on performance and sustainability?

A: This innovation marks a groundbreaking milestone as the world’s first LPG conversion system designed specifically for scooters. It provides a game-changing solution for the retrofitment market, enabling owners of petrol-powered scooters to switch to an affordable and eco-friendly fuel alternative. Our system, fully type-approved, complies with all statutory requirements and prioritizes safety at every level.

Launched nationwide last month, this system offers significant cost savings, reducing fuel expenses by at least 35–40% compared to petrol. While the current availability of LPG stations in Delhi and NCR remains limited, oil companies have ambitious plans to expand and revive the LPG network in the region. In other parts of India, a robust LPG infrastructure is already in place, and we are actively catering to those markets, driving adoption and growth.

Q: Does the system function as a hybrid engine, or is it exclusively designed to run on LPG?

A: This LPG conversion system seamlessly integrates with petrol-powered vehicles, retaining their original petrol operation while adding LPG as a complementary option. It enables dual-fuel functionality, allowing the vehicle to run entirely on petrol or switch to 100% LPG mode as needed. This flexibility ensures optimal performance and adaptability for users.

Q: What type of alternative fuel system does your company offer, and how does it enhance efficiency and sustainability?

A: The system comprises a tank, safety valves, reducer, injector, and controller, working seamlessly as an integrated unit. It effectively interfaces with the petrol vehicle system without being perceived as a threat or disruption. By emulating signals in a way the vehicle interprets as operating in petrol mode, the system ensures a smooth transition and uninterrupted functionality.

This real-time simulation enables the vehicle to operate without distinguishing between fuels, maintaining seamless performance. Remarkably, the system reduces pollution by 50 to 60%, significantly cutting carbon monoxide, total hydrocarbons, and nitrous oxide emissions. The result is a cleaner, more efficient operation that aligns with sustainable practices.

Q: How does your hybrid engine system ensure safety for users, and what measures have been implemented to meet safety standards?

A: These tanks are fully approved by the Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), ensuring compliance with the highest safety standards. Designed to withstand pressures up to 105 bar, they far exceed the operational requirement of just 30 bar. Additionally, the residual operational pressure remains within a safe range of 7 to 10 bar. With a safety factor at least ten times higher than normal, these tanks offer exceptional reliability and durability under all operating conditions.

Q: What are the costs associated with converting a petrol engine to run on LPG, and how does this compare to traditional fuel systems?

A: This system is compatible with all vehicle models, making it an exceptionally versatile solution—one system for every need. It can be customized and configured to align with specific vehicle requirements and strategies. Remarkably, the system’s cost remains affordable, not exceeding ₹15,000, inclusive of GST.
