In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World, Jyoti sheds light on the unique challenges women face in the catering industry. She also introduces her latest venture, RRBufetly, discusses the pressing need for government support in the sector, and offers valuable insights into evolving customer expectations.

Here are the key takeaways from her inspiring journey and thought-provoking exchange.

Q: What are the key challenges faced by women working in the catering industry today?

A: The catering industry remains largely male-dominated, with very few women daring to break into the field. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, I am the only woman independently running a catering business in Ahmedabad.

When I launched my venture, scepticism surrounded me. Many doubted whether I could meet customer expectations or handle the operational demands of this competitive industry. Yet, I chose not to be deterred. Instead, I let results speak for themselves.

By committing to uncompromising quality, maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, ensuring punctual deliveries, and embracing a professional management approach, I consistently exceeded expectations and earned my clients’ trust.

Q: Could you tell us more about your startup, RRBufetly, and what inspired its inception?

A: RRBufetly is a cloud-based buffet service designed for small gatherings, offering curated meals for groups of 5 to 50 people with just 24 hours’ notice. The concept combines convenience, quality, and flexibility—catering to the evolving needs of modern consumers.

In 2021, the startup earned recognition from IIT Kharagpur at the Idea Pitchfest, validating the strength of its business model. To scale further, I enrolled in the Women Startup Program at IIM Bengaluru, where I strategically leveraged digital marketing for growth hacking.

As a result, our order volume has grown steadily through social media channels, driven by increased engagement and strong word-of-mouth. The response—particularly from corporate clients and residential communities—has been overwhelmingly positive.

Looking ahead, we are actively engaged in discussions with global tech accelerators such as Y Combinator to secure funding and mentorship. My vision is to scale RRBufetly across India, bringing our efficient, on-demand buffet service to every major city.

Q: What kind of support do you believe the government should provide to help this sector grow?

A: India’s catering industry is a massive market, currently valued between ₹30,000 and ₹50,000 crore—and it’s growing at an impressive rate of 15–20% annually. Despite this rapid expansion, the sector remains largely unorganized and underserved in terms of policy support.

It’s time the government acknowledges this industry’s potential and introduces targeted policies to streamline operations, encourage entrepreneurship, and foster sustainable growth.

Q: What are the key expectations customers typically have from a catering company?

A: Customers demand high-quality food at competitive prices—rightly so. Whether it’s a corporate event or a social celebration, the success of any gathering often hinges on the food served. Flavour, presentation, and value drive guest satisfaction.

At the same time, pricing remains a critical concern. People want excellence without overspending. To meet these expectations, a caterer must offer more than just service—they must bring culinary expertise to the table.

That’s why we work with specialized chefs across diverse cuisines, ensuring authenticity and variety. We focus on every detail, from taste to cost-efficiency, so our clients can enjoy their events stress-free. In essence, we deliver peace of mind—one plate at a time.
