Kamdev Pan, a young innovator hailed from Basurda village in Saraikela-Kharswan district of #Jharkhand. He has designed an eco-friendly electric bike that can run for about 50 km to 60 km on full charge. The e-bike can also be pedalled in case of discharge of battery. Kamdev has been rewarded by Shri Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Kalinga University for his affordable innovation. Here is an exclusive interview of Kamdev with T.I.W.
#1. How long did you take to design this e-bike?
I almost took three years to design this bike since its ideation. I don’t have any formal training in automotive. This innovation is an outcome of my relentless hit-and-trial approach. If you believe in yourself, you can accomplish the impossible tasks. It was quite difficult for me to arrange all the required parts and connect them all to transform into a modern e-bike.
#2. What’s the demand of e-bikes in India?
You can notice that price of petrol is rising exponentially and per km cost is also proportionately spiking. Now, it’s evident that the future of two-wheelers lies in innovative e-bikes. I am getting so many calls daily from across the country for the booking of this e-bike. This demonstrates the demand of e-bikes in India.
#3. How will be this e-bike available in market?
I am collaborating with a Mumbai-based automotive company Shakti Auto for commercial production of e-bikes. By the end of this year, it will be available in the market. The first batch production will have 5,000 e-bikes. As far as the price is concerned, currently I am selling at Rs. 38,000, but after commercial production, the price will come down.
#4. Could you please share your future strategy?
I have already started working on it. I have taken the patent of this technology. The new e-bike will bring disruption in electric two-wheeler market in a sense that the e-bike I am designing will never require recharge or swapping of battery. Once you buy it, forget charging it.
#5. What brand name are you thinking for your new e-bike?
It’s unique and can touch the imagination of all bikers. I have decided to brand it as “Go-Go – Chalte Jao, Chalte Jao”.
