The Interview World

New Delhi: In a stern riposte to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, India’s Cabinet Committee on Security has frozen cornerstone links with Pakistan, citing “credible cross‑border linkages” to the terror strike. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced an immediate suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty—long a rare symbol of cooperation—until Islamabad “credibly and irrevocably” abandons support for terrorism. The move halts water‑sharing on the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab, a step Pakistan has previously warned would be viewed as an “act of war.”

Additional measures bite hard: the Attari–Wagah Integrated Check Post shuts forthwith; Pakistani nationals’ SAARC Visa Exemption passes are cancelled, with 48 hours to exit. Defence advisers in both capitals are declared persona non grata and overall mission strength will be slashed almost in half by 1 May 2025.

The CCS ordered forces to high alert and vowed to bring The Resistance Front—an offshoot of Lashkar‑e‑Taiba—and its sponsors to justice, underscoring India’s resolve that, henceforth, “blood and water will not flow together.”
