Anondita Medicare Ltd. stands as a leading Indian manufacturer of contraceptive products and latex gloves, distinguished by its unwavering focus on quality and innovation. Founded in 2001 and rebranded in 2013, the company has become a vital contributor to India’s public health ecosystem, supplying premium condoms to national family planning and AIDS control initiatives.

Expanding beyond domestic boundaries, Anondita has built a robust global presence and holds the distinction of being India’s first manufacturer of female contraceptive products. Its flagship brand, Cobra Condoms, offers electronically tested products in vibrant flavours such as strawberry, mint, and chocolate, blending safety with consumer appeal.

Driven by deep technical expertise and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Anondita Medicare continues to expand its footprint across global markets, strengthening India’s position in the international healthcare manufacturing landscape.

In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World during the 4th International SME Convention, organized by the India SME Forum in partnership with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, Anupam Banerjee, Business Head (International Markets), Anondita Medicare Ltd., sheds light on the company’s diverse product portfolio, including contraceptive products and gloves. He discusses the vast opportunities emerging in international markets, outlines upcoming product innovations over the next five years, and shares the company’s long-term strategic vision.

Below are the key insights from this engaging and forward-looking discussion.

Q: Could you elaborate on the range of healthcare products offered by Anondita Medicare?

A: We are a fully Indian-owned manufacturer specializing in surgical, industrial, and household gloves. Alongside this core vertical, we operate a strong contraceptive division focused on external contraceptives, primarily condoms. Notably, we are India’s largest manufacturer of female condoms, supplying extensively to government agencies through programs such as the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and the Directorate General of Supplies (DGS).

Recently, we have adopted a strategic expansion plan following our successful IPO launch last month. This initiative aims to strengthen our presence in both domestic and international markets.

As part of this global growth strategy, we have begun formal discussions with the South African government to secure supply contracts. Since all imports into South Africa must comply with the stringent certification process of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), we have already initiated the required registration. The process involves a comprehensive factory audit followed by product-specific approvals. Our facilities have successfully completed the first phase of the SABS audit, marking a key milestone in our entry into the South African market.

Simultaneously, we have started negotiations with the Brazilian government to explore similar opportunities. Step by step, as product registrations and compliance formalities are completed, we aim to expand our reach into additional international markets, solidifying our position as a trusted global healthcare manufacturer.

Q: How do you identify and pursue opportunities for your products in international markets?

A: The global contraceptive market is intensely competitive, especially when compared with established brands like Durex, which continues to dominate the external contraceptive segment. In markets such as the United States and Canada, retail channels, including numerous dollar stores, offer significant potential for expansion, particularly given the strong presence of Indian buyers and distributors.

While Durex products occupy the premium price segment, our competitively priced Indian products present an attractive alternative without compromising on quality. This pricing advantage enables us to tap into a vast and underserved consumer base across North America.

We are now actively expanding our supply network to the U.S. and Canadian markets, targeting dollar-store chains with high-quality products at highly affordable rates. In terms of performance and safety, our products meet the same rigorous standards as leading global brands. We take immense pride in maintaining 100% Indian manufacturing, ensuring strict quality control at every stage.

With unwavering commitment and passion, we continue to strengthen our international presence, steadily capturing new markets and positioning India as a credible force in the global contraceptive industry.

Q: What new product innovations are you planning over the next five years to establish a strong niche in your market segment?

A: At our core, we are a healthcare company. Beyond our established presence in gloves and contraceptives, we are now strategically exploring entry into the pharmaceutical segment. As an initial step, we plan to introduce a select range of medicines, including analgesics and related products.

This initiative marks the beginning of a promising new venture for us. While it is still in its early stages, we view it as an important step toward diversifying our healthcare portfolio and expanding our impact. We look forward to seeing how the market responds as we move ahead with this expansion.

Q: Over the next decade, what are your key goals for market reach, penetration, and revenue, and how do you plan to achieve them?

A: The Government of India has introduced several initiatives to strengthen both domestic and international markets. Platforms like the International SME Convention play a vital role in this effort, offering valuable opportunities for startups seeking to expand globally.

Having managed international markets for many years, I am well-versed in compliance requirements and the expectations of global buyers. However, for startups and emerging enterprises entering the export business, forums like this provide an exceptional platform to gain insights, build networks, and understand international trade dynamics.

Such initiatives empower entrepreneurs to take confident steps toward establishing their presence in global markets.
