In an exclusive conversation with The Interview World at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2025, Betty Hui, Group Sales Director of BAK Power Battery Co., Ltd., shared valuable insights into the company’s trailblazing innovations that are redefining the battery industry. She discussed the rapid evolution of battery technology and its growing influence on the global power sector, explained how BAK Power’s advancements contribute to significant carbon-emission reductions, and highlighted collaborations with Indian companies already integrating BAK solutions.

Here are the key takeaways from her insightful conversation.

Q: What key innovations is BAK Power Battery introducing to advance the battery industry?

A: Our innovation focuses on two key areas: high-temperature performance and longer cycle life. Equally important is fast-charging capability. In India, many users face challenges charging their vehicles at home due to limited access to charging infrastructure. To address this, we’ve developed batteries that support rapid charging without compromising performance. Even under fast-charging conditions, our cells deliver the same reliability and efficiency as standard models. These two breakthroughs, enhanced durability and fast charging, define the core advantages of our latest lithium-ion batteries.

Q: BAK Power Battery’s tagline is ‘Building a zero-carbon ideal life.’ Could you elaborate on what this vision means in practical terms?

A: Our tagline reflects our vision to transform India’s three-wheeler segment by driving a complete shift from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. We are actively working toward this goal and remain committed to accelerating the nation’s transition to cleaner, smarter mobility.

Q: Do your batteries contain carbon materials?

A: Our batteries do contain carbon; however, their carbon footprint is only about one-third that of internal combustion engine vehicles. This significant reduction makes our technology a far more sustainable alternative to conventional fuel-powered systems.

Q: How do you see battery technology evolving, and what role will it play in shaping the future of the power sector?

A: The industry is evolving from smaller battery formats to larger, more advanced ones. Currently, smaller batteries require a higher number of cells per pack. However, as we move toward larger cell formats, the number of cells decreases, which in turn lowers production costs and improves overall efficiency. This transition not only enhances performance through new technology but also makes energy solutions more cost-effective. Our next-generation battery technology will undoubtedly strengthen and accelerate the growth of the power sector.

Q: Is your technology environmentally friendly, and how does it help cut carbon emissions?

A: We independently calculate our carbon emissions to meet the stringent requirements of our European clients. They mandate a detailed assessment of each cell’s carbon footprint. The results clearly show that our batteries generate only about one-third of the emissions produced by internal combustion engine vehicles. This demonstrates a substantial reduction in carbon output. Of course, certain factors, such as transportation emissions from shipping, are unavoidable, but even with those considered, our overall footprint remains remarkably low.

Q: Do you currently have any partnerships or clients in India using your batteries?

A: Several leading Indian automakers, including Eicher Motors, Hero, and Bajaj Auto, already rely on our battery solutions. In addition, many of the country’s two-wheeler electric vehicle manufacturers have also adopted our advanced battery technology to power their products.

Q: What are your India-centric plans for the future?

A: At the moment, we don’t have concrete plans for operations in India. Current Chinese policy restrictions make it challenging for us to establish joint ventures there. However, we continue to explore potential avenues for collaboration as the policy environment evolves.
