GEM Enviro Management Limited is more than a waste management company, it is a true architect of sustainability. From its headquarters in New Delhi, GEM operates at the powerful intersection of compliance, innovation, and environmental stewardship. The company leads India’s charge in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), covering plastics, e-waste, batteries, and tyres. At the same time, it guides corporations on ESG strategy, BRSR reporting, wastewater treatment, and plastic credit management with unmatched expertise.

But GEM’s influence reaches far beyond corporate boardrooms. It drives large-scale awareness campaigns across schools, colleges, and communities. It also empowers informal waste workers through targeted IEC initiatives, building resilience at the grassroots. With a nationwide footprint and a stellar roster of clients, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Varun Beverages, Himalaya, Amul, Parle, IFFCO, and NFL among them, GEM has earned its place as a trusted partner to India’s most respected brands.

At its core, GEM helps businesses weave circular economy principles into their very DNA. By converting waste into opportunity, it is scripting a greener and more resilient future for industries and communities alike.

At the Delhi Water Expo 2025, The Interview World engaged in an exclusive conversation with Punit Rajgaria, General Manager at GEM Enviro Management Ltd. He outlined the company’s wide-ranging solutions in wastewater treatment, explained how GEM enables organizations to meet stringent compliance requirements, and spotlighted the innovative technologies redefining wastewater management. Looking ahead, he also shared his vision of GEM’s growth trajectory.

Here are the key insights from his compelling conversation.

Q: Could you elaborate on the range of solutions GEM Enviro Management provides to different industries, with a particular emphasis on wastewater treatment?

A: GEM Enviro Management Limited delivers cutting-edge solutions in industrial wastewater treatment. Its portfolio spans effluent treatment plants (ETPs), zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems, and sewage treatment plants (STPs). Each offering is designed to meet the pressing environmental and regulatory demands of today’s industrial landscape.

The urgency is undeniable. Across sectors, effluents discharged from factories carry high concentrations of chemicals, acids, and toxic contaminants. Left untreated, these pollutants seep into the soil and re-enter the drinking water cycle, posing serious risks to human health. Recognizing this threat, government mandates, municipal protocols, and forward-looking corporations now insist on effective wastewater treatment before any discharge occurs.

GEM addresses this challenge head-on. Its zero liquid discharge systems ensure that no untreated effluent enters the environment. Instead, liquid waste is converted into solid residues that can be disposed of safely, eliminating the threat of contamination. By integrating compliance with innovation, GEM empowers industries to protect natural resources while meeting the highest environmental standards.

With its comprehensive offerings, ETPs, ZLD systems, and STPs, GEM Enviro Management Limited stands at the forefront of sustainable water management, helping industries safeguard both ecosystems and communities.

Q: What levels of regulatory compliance does your organization enable clients to achieve?

A: Our solutions directly empower industries, ranging from cement to beverages and beyond. By installing effluent treatment plants (ETPs) and sewage treatment plants (STPs), these businesses align their operations with environmental regulations. As a result, they secure the necessary certifications and achieve full compliance with statutory norms. In essence, GEM not only enables industries to meet standards but also strengthens their license to operate responsibly.

Q: What innovative solutions or technology-driven advancements has your organization developed to address wastewater challenges?

A: Technology continues to evolve every single day, with new components and solutions constantly entering the market. In India’s context, however, the real shift is not about the arrival of fresh technologies but about an urgent new requirement: zero liquid discharge (ZLD).

Most industries have long resisted ZLD because of its high costs, often perceiving it as commercially unviable. Yet, a transformative idea is now gaining traction: the concept of common ZLD plants. In this model, 10 to 15 industries located in close proximity collaborate to establish a shared ZLD facility. This approach drastically reduces costs, while ensuring full compliance with environmental mandates.

Yes, technological advancements like improved membranes and filtration systems continue to refine the process. But the real innovation lies in this collective model of adoption. ZLD, once seen as an expensive burden, is now emerging as a practical, cost-effective, and sustainable solution. It is a concept that industries must embrace if they are serious about environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance.

Q: Does your organization primarily focus on delivering solutions within India, or are you also executing projects at an international level?

A: At present, most of our clients are based in India. Yet, we are actively exploring opportunities in Africa and the Middle East. Beyond domestic engagements, we have already executed waste management projects in Nepal, marking our presence outside India. Building on this momentum, we continue to scout for more international projects to expand our global footprint.

Q: How do you envision the future of GEM Enviro Management in terms of its growth trajectory and strategic direction?

A: We have been building our journey for the past 14 years. Last year, we achieved a significant milestone by getting listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, officially stepping into the league of publicly traded companies. This achievement is not an endpoint, it is a foundation. Our vision is to carry this momentum forward and translate it into exponential growth.

In the next three to four years, we are determined to scale our revenues at least tenfold, if not more. That ambition is not just aspirational; it is backed by strategy, execution, and a relentless focus on results. At the same time, we are preparing to diversify. Within the water segment itself, we see multiple opportunities waiting to be tapped.

Alongside, we are expanding our horizon beyond India, with a clear intent to establish a presence in international markets. This dual strategy of sectoral and geographical diversification defines our next chapter. We have the vision, and we are working with precision to make it a reality.
