The Supreme Court of India has provided temporary relief to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, ruling that no further police cases can be filed against him over his controversial comments on ‘India’s Got Latent.’ The court, however, rebuked him sharply, calling his remarks “obscene” and questioning their societal impact.
Allahbadia, who cited death threats, has been assured police protection but must surrender his passport and refrain from participating in stand-up or roast shows. He was also granted immunity from arrest, provided he cooperates with ongoing investigations.
The highest court criticized his statements, with Justice Surya Kant declaring, “If this is not obscenity, then what is?” Meanwhile, Allahbadia apologized, admitting a “lapse in judgment” and calling his remarks “insensitive and disrespectful.” While Mumbai Police has yet to file a case, multiple investigations continue, and Allahbadia remains under scrutiny from law enforcement and the National Commission for Women.
