During his visit to Marseille, he paid homage to freedom fighter Veer Savarkar’s “courageous escape” attempt from British custody in 1910 and thanked French activists for supporting India’s independence movement.
PM Modi inaugurated India’s second consulate in France and participated in a memorial ceremony at Mazargues War Cemetery, honoring soldiers who died in the World Wars. He and French President Emmanuel Macron also toured the ITER nuclear fusion project, underscoring bilateral scientific cooperation.
Earlier, Modi and Macron addressed the AI Action Summit and India-France CEOs Forum in Paris, reinforcing economic and technological collaborations. Modi also met US Vice President J.D. Vance, ahead of his US visit on February 13, furthering diplomatic engagements.
