In a landmark meeting at the White House, PM Modi and US President Trump announced COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology for the 21st Century), a comprehensive initiative to enhance bilateral ties across defence, trade, technology, and energy.
Key developments include a new ten-year US-India Major Defence Partnership framework, expanded US arms sales, and deeper cooperation in space, maritime, and undersea warfare. Talks also covered streamlining technology transfers and joint development of autonomous surveillance systems.
On trade, the leaders set “Mission 500,” targeting $500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. A bilateral trade agreement is expected by 2025, alongside commitments to resolving tariff disputes. India’s investments in the US, supporting 3,000 jobs, were also highlighted.
The TRUST Initiative will drive partnerships in AI, biotechnology, and space, with a focus on strategic minerals. The leaders also pledged deeper collaboration in nuclear energy and India’s IEA membership bid. On global security, both condemned Pakistan’s inaction on terrorism, confirmed the extradition of 26/11 convict Tahawwur Rana, and reinforced Quad and I2U2 commitments. Tech giant Meta announced a 50,000 km undersea cable project, cementing digital ties.
