The Budget Session of Parliament begins today with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Following her speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2024-25, prepared by Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran’s team, outlining the economy’s performance and future roadmap.
The government has listed 16 bills for the session, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, and The Railways (Amendment) Bill. Sitharaman will present the Modi 3.0 government’s first full Budget on Saturday, with expectations of changes in income tax slabs.
The Union Budget session will be held in two parts: the first concluding on February 13 and the second from March 10 to April 4, with 27 sittings in total. Lok Sabha will debate the President’s address on February 3-4, while Rajya Sabha will hold discussions over three days.
