OTTAWA – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared the era of deep economic, security, and military ties with the U.S. “over” after President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on vehicle imports. The move, set to take effect next week, threatens 500,000 Canadian auto jobs. Carney, calling the tariffs “unjustified,” vowed retaliation. He refused trade talks until Trump respects Canada’s sovereignty. Despite White House outreach, the two leaders have yet to speak. With Canada’s election looming on April 28, Carney warned of a permanent shift in relations, stating, “There is no turning back.”
