India is set to operate its first human underwater submersible at a depth of 500 meters this year under the Deep Ocean Mission, announced Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh. Speaking at a Mission Steering Committee meeting attended by key officials, Singh highlighted plans to extend the submersible’s reach to 6,000 meters by next year. The mission aims to unlock critical resources, including rare minerals and marine biodiversity, essential for economic growth and sustainability. Developed using indigenous technology, this milestone aligns with India’s other landmark missions, including Gaganyaan, furthering the nation’s strides in scientific innovation and a robust blue economy.
