The Interview World

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that the West stands at a “crossroads in history” as European leaders convened in London on Sunday to take the lead in negotiations over the Russia-Ukraine war. The summit, held at Lancaster House, underscored Europe’s growing urgency to forge a ceasefire plan amid strained U.S.-Ukraine relations.

Starmer, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, proposed a month-long truce covering air, sea, and energy infrastructure, with further talks on ground troops to follow. The move positions Europe as an active negotiator, potentially rivalling U.S.-led efforts.

Tensions flared after U.S. President Donald Trump chastised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, deepening concerns in Europe. Despite this, Starmer reassured allies that the U.S. remains a committed partner. In a financial boost, the UK pledged $2 billion in air defence missiles to Ukraine. Zelensky welcomed the summit, praising Europe’s unity at a crucial moment in the conflict.
