President Donald Trump announced plans for sweeping reciprocal tariffs in an all-caps Truth Social post Thursday, vowing to match higher import rates imposed by other nations.

“THREE GREAT WEEKS, PERHAPS THE BEST EVER, BUT TODAY IS THE BIG ONE: RECIPROCAL TARIFFS!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” he wrote.

Trump’s tariffs aim to counter foreign levies on American goods, a move he says will protect U.S. workers and national security. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed more details will emerge before Trump’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Economists warn the tariffs could drive up consumer prices, particularly on imports from India, Brazil, and Vietnam. Key sectors impacted may include medical supplies, electronics, and European automobiles.

While negotiations continue, the policy could further escalate trade tensions, adding to the economic strain of Trump’s recent 10% blanket tariff and increased levies on steel, aluminum, and Chinese goods.
