On the eve of Republic Day, Indian Railways successfully conducted a trial run of its first Vande Bharat Express between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar (SINA) railway stations. This new semi-high-speed train makes history by crossing the iconic Anji Khad Bridge and the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge at 359 meters above the riverbed. Designed to endure the extreme cold of the Kashmir Valley, the train introduces advanced features like heating systems for water and bio-toilet tanks, air-brake systems, and frost-resistant windshields.
This marks the third Vande Bharat train in Jammu & Kashmir but the first for the Kashmir Valley. The train promises efficient travel with a 3-hour, 10-minute journey, and is expected to attract pilgrims and tourists with affordable fares ranging between Rs 1,500-2,500. With climate-controlled compartments and modern amenities, this Vande Bharat model enhances connectivity and tourism in the region.
